Waxing in the Sun

I know this is a no no according to instructions. However, if you can wipe off the wax minutes after you applied it, is it possible to wax in the sun?

It depends on the wax. I have never had a good wax experience in the sun (minus Prolong, remember that stuff?).

Maybe a more experience detailer can comment on this.

There is no reason you "can't" wax in the sun. It just makes the product dry very quickly, perhaps before you can get it adequately spread out or worked in (depending on the product).

Yes there is a reason you can't wax in the sun. If the panels are too hot when the wax is applied you'll bake it right in and then your not going to get it out at all. If the panels are still cool enough you can wax in the sun. Do it 1 panel at a time. Apply take off. move along. But always touch the panels first. If they are too hot for your hand to lay on then they are too hot to apply wax with. You can spray them off with cool water first to get them down to a workable temp range.

I have used the poorboys products sucessfully in the sun. SSR 2.5, SSR1, Propolish and EXP sealant. I have a back car and you just need to polish in small sections and the Sealant, i applied to the whole car that was baking in the sun. Easy removal.

:tribe: That's exactly my experience when waxing in the sun. I used PB Natty's red in the sun, while perfectly fine for sun application, i found it dried too quickly for my taste. I still love my Natty's blue and red, i just prefer to apply them in the garage.

Get up early before sunup wash and wax car. I do it all the time. Today I was up before the sun and did just that started at 5.30 wash and then wax at 6.45 to 8.15 YES the sun was up but in the morning it is not so hot and direct.

I recently laid a coat of P21S 100% Carnauba over a layer of NXT 2.0 in direct sunlight with temps in the high 80's. The NXT was applied in the shade, but someone else needed to use the covered carsh wash station at our appartment complex so I had to apply the P21S in the sun. It ended up working out fine. It still went on and came off like a breeze.

That said NXT 2.0 should definitely never be applied in direct/hot sunlight. I did that a year ago and it was a major mistake.

Some stuff is more forgiving than others. PB stuff will be fine as I have done that.

I have no trees where I live, but the east side of my yard is shaded by my house, a split entry, by about 630pm. That is the best time for me to wash a car. There would still be adequate light to see what you are doing, too. You could see if you can do the same thing. If nothing else waiting until later in the day will mean the panels are less hot.

I got up at 6 the other day to wash my Lincoln before going out for breakfast, it's very relaxing to wash your ride early in the morning (although I just wash in the garage or use ONR when the sun is out).

I haven't had any issues with Duragloss Aquawax in the sun (the panels weren't *too* hot, though), and I've used Poorboy's EX-P in the sun without issue (just be sure to WOWO), although I am not all that fond of that particular product TBH.

I guess it should be emphasized that it's not the sun, per se, that is the cause of any problems, but the temperature of the panel, as caused by the sun.
