hi,

i'm sure this has been beat to death but I was unable to find anything in the search section--

I have a 04 BLK Yukon and wanted to hear some opinions on which kind of wax I should use?

Thanks!

Pinnacle Souveran. $60-70

Poorboy's Natty's. $15

Cleaner/Sealant: I hear Poorboy's PwC + EX is very nice on black. About $30 for the combo.

personal favorites for black:
heavier swirls: SSR2.5 or DACP polishing pad
polish: VM, #80, or PPP
Sealants: EX-P or Wolfgang
Waxes: CMW, TS, and Souveran; some people also like NXT but I have not used it.

Since the car is yours and you have the time go with VM, CMW, and then TS 2x. I have used that combo on my girl's Beetle and it is incredible. The VM/CMW make the black shine like crazy and the TS adds a scary amount depth. On a side note the CMW can be replaced by a sealant like EX-P if you choose. After X-Mas I plan on using VM/EX-P 2x/Souveran 2x; and there will be pics, finally getting a new digital camera.

The wax is only as good as the prep work!

I like Meguiar's #20 polymer sealant topped with S-100 on black.

Whoa Confusion! Ok I'll try this combo you stated... the VM then CMW then TS twice... what are those product names and where can i buy them? lol

thanks

Clearkote Carnauba Moose is my favorite LSP on black...not the longest lasting but really darkens the paint.

Remember, it's all in the prep......the worst wax on well prepped paint looks 100x better then the best wax on non prepped paint.

Here is a shot with - VM, CMW

Sorry JS, I was under the impression that you have done this before. Your best bet would be to contact one of our sponsors and have them help you order what you'll need. As Gonzo and blkyukon said above the prep work is the most important step, i.e. clay, swirl removers, polishes. Only after the surface is properly prepped, the paint will already look great, do you top with a wax or sealant. You may also want to get a PC and some pads; the initial cost of these products can easily reach 300+ and it may seem like alot but to protect a 30-40K car its well worth it. Good Luck!

As for the acronyms: http://www.detailcity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4417

As stated above, surely good prep work is key but after you get that right, Souveran is truly marvelous. It's one of those products I'm going to have no problem keeping permanently in my collection :bow :bigups

Yeah i'm new-- I've got ane excell datasheet that i'm making note of evetything i'm going to order-- now which sponsor do i contact to order products?

Sponsors are listed underneath the corvette (top left corner) or click OUR SPONSORS top right

I would go with sourvern if you can afford it or Trade Secret for great depth...good luck and don't get stuck on "one way" of doing things. Every vehicle has it's own personalities (defects, paint jobs, envirnment condition etc.) Most importantly...HAVE FUN...its worth it when you see your efforts.

hmm  i found that CM lasted longest of most of the sealants i have. It lasted me a good 4-5 months

" found that CM lasted longest of most of the sealants i have. It lasted me a good 4-5 months"

That's a little hard to believe. That's an implausible lot of durability for carnauba.

Souveran is what you want. Nothing better on black.

well believe it, even though it seems that it is a carnuba liquid wax it does say on the bottle protection for up to 6 months or something like that. But it did last me what i said, even scottwax said something similar. Just FYI. I used it over VM then did regular hand washings after that using 49 body shine as my qd.

There might be protection there for about that long but the wetness and glow for me diminish after about 2 - 2.5 months (max) ...Don't get me wrong this is one of my favorite carnauba's and gives me the wettest, blackest paint of all the carnauba's I've used (I haven't used Souveran though )

Has anyone compared CMW to Souveran? I'd love to try Souveran but I can't justify spending that amount for something that is a tad bit better then what I have....

I've done side by side comparisons with CMW and Souveran. CMW produces a dripping wet look. It is my favorite topper for white colors. Souveran results in a very deep reflection with great color saturation. It is my favorite topper on dark colors, especially non-metallics.

My favorite combo for non-metallic black colors is: VM, EX x2, Souveran. Substitute EX-P for EX with metallic black.

FWIW, I get about 4 months of durability from CMW and 2 months from Souveran paste.

Hmmm, I did not know carnauba could last that long. Perhaps there is a sealant mix as well...

The Souveran is indeed quite nice :bigups. Fortunately, now and then it does go on sale. Check with premiumautocare.com and autogeek.net frequently. Still not cheap but better than paying full price.
