waxes and sealants

Hey, I searched the forum but I couldn't find any help so hopefully this isn't a repost. But I just wanted to know ...

1) Has anyone tried Meguiar's Polymer Sealant (#20)?

2) How is sealant applied? (Is it similar to wax where u rub it on and lightly buff off?)

3) Can I apply a coat of sealant and then (the next day) apply a coat of wax?

4) Can I mix wax and sealant and apply them at the same time?

I'd appreciate any insight. Thanks :)

2) you can apply it like a wax by using a foam applicator and gently rubbing it into the paint, and you can also apply it like a wax using a PC with a finishing pad.

3) yes, but you can't go back and apply another layer of sealant, only additional layers of wax

4) I'm not sure about this, but I would think that it wouldn't work due to the differences of waxes and sealants. However, Meguiar's #26, for example, is a blend of carnauba and polymers.

1) Has anyone tried Meguiar's Polymer Sealant?

Iâ€â„¢ve used NXT, great polymer sealant no durability

2) How is sealant applied? (Is it similar to wax where u rub it on and lightly buff off?)

â€Â¢Yes, Apply polymers just like you would a wax

â€Â¢The secret to the application of a polymer product is to apply it thin (super thin) Fill a spray bottle and mist a foam pad for application.

â€Â¢Swipe Test: after sufficient drying times do a quick swipe test with your finger, if the paint is clear and no smearing or drag is evident, the residue is ready to be removed. If the area you have swiped is smudgy, or streaky, or there is noticeable product, then it has not had sufficient time to set-up, allow more time before your remove it.

3) Can I apply a coat of sealant and then (the next day) apply a coat of wax?

Yes, as long as sufficient time is allowed to enable cross-linking, 12 â€â€œ 72 hours is recommended before the application of further â€Ëœlayersâ€â„¢ or other products (i.e. a Carnauba or QD)

4) Can I mix wax and sealant and apply them at the same time?

No, The oils in a wax will not allow a polymer and a carnauba wax to mix; you will end up with a liquid that will not cross-link when itâ€â„¢s applied.

There are products manufactured that contain both wax and polymers, by the formulation of a wax in water-emulsion

Thanks for all your help!!

But I also want to know, should I apply some cleaner or polish pior to the sealant? And can I apply the sealant with a random orbit polisher/waxer?

Thanks for all your help!!

Youâ€â„¢re welcome

Q: But I also want to know, should I apply some cleaner or polish prior to the sealant?

A: Dependant upon what paint surface problems you have a polish may be necessary before the application of a sealant. A sealants can only reflect (or be as good as) what is underneath it.

Q: And can I apply the sealant with a random orbit polisher/waxer?

A: Yes, the preferred machine is a Porter-Cable random orbital polisher
