Wax on trim, wax blaster not doing the trick.

CHAOS

ok, so ive got some wax on the plastic trim on my car because i was lazy and didnt tape it off... i tried using wax blaster but its not doing anything... any ideas?

i tried a super diluted version of some acid but i think it may have been a little bit too diluted to work lol. i just dont want to damage the trim.

The Mr Clean Magic Eraser, dampened in so alcohol always does the trick for me. Sometimes, depending on the plastic, a little white (foam?) powdery residue is left after I do this, but APC or a vinyl/plastic cleaner will remove that.

heres some pix of the trim sections im referring to.

and the wax is natty's red.

How is it stained? White or shiny? The reason I ask is that when I use a product like #16 or 845 I always wax over that kind of trim, keeps it dark and nice, but I don't know nuttin' 'bout Natty's (haven't yet tried the jar I won).

Magic Eraser sounds like a good idea, I've used a toothbrush and APC. Or the Bill North suggestion of toothbrush/EO All Wheel and Tire Cleaner.

Car looks great, BTW.

its white...

ill try the magic eraser, any more ideas would be great.

thanks for the comment on the car, i should be posting more pix of it soon as i recently cleaned her up for spring.

I'm really surprised that what is supposed to be a pure wax like Natty's would leave a bad stain like that--was it a heavy layer that got on there? Was it left a long time? Maybe it's the "red" ingredient that stained...:)

i wouldnt call it a stain... id say its stuff i didnt see and thought i wiped off and apparently didnt lol... its been about a week now... so its only going to be a bigger PITA as time goes

That might be your problem then..

i guess ill go with RMG next time...

so do you still think the magic eraser will tackle it... or am i going to need to try the wheel acid cut like 4:1? lol im at a loss for ideas.

I wouldn't use acid...wax/sealant should be able to be dissolved with either a solvent (IPA or Wax Blaster) or a detergent (APC or EOAWATC). You've just got to be able to agitate it without mechanically damaging the trim. Soft toothbrush or other brush or sponge or Magic Eraser...put the wheel acid away!

lol oh come on it wont hurt anything... except my windows, and paint and trim and skin and eyes and lungs hahaha

ill give the ME a try and see how that works i guess. i think using a brush on the window trim would just end up with scratches along the edge of the paint and thats not an easy spot to polish...

I wasn't impressed with Wax Blaster either. I think the trick is more with thr right tool versus the chemical.

A stiff toothbrush and APC worked the best for me. The Magic Eraser was also pretty good

I don't mean to sound smart, but a pack of Magic Erasers can be had for $3, and a bottle of alcohol for $1. Go buy both of these products and try it.

not taken as sounding smart at all. im going to try it out when i get home from work.

ok so a bit of an update:

the MrClean Magic Eraser kicks ***... some water sprayed onto it then "scrubbed" the trim... stuff came right off... im definitely gonna be keeping it in my arsenal.
