Wax on PBL v1- a curiosity test

Hello everyone. So I conducted a little experiment to gain some first-hand knowledge of my own.
That’s right, I waxed my coating….oh I know, bit No-No…but they’re my products so I can play with them how I want.

A couple threads for reference…or just to show I have been toying with this similar concept for some time

Layering pbl coating- the original thread after PBL application

6 week synergy beads (on freshly polished paint)- for reference

previously topped synergy on pbl v1 (on the daily driver)

also have a Wax on top of a coating? thread but the "?" has shut it down so I cant link that one

This was an attempt to see the filling ability of the waxes and how they play on top of a coating. I could not get good enough pics in the sun of the filling with my camera phone but the small marring (presumably IN the coating) was covered by all waxes used. The only marring left was underneath the coating (a couple RIDS I didn’t want to try and compound out at the time- I’ve polished this car several times and really not sure how safe I can cut into it until I get a reader).

Synergy, Black Ice and Natty’s Black made the most visual improvements (subjectively observed of course) and DoDo Hybrid Nano was so hard to get onto the applicator but I managed to get a coat on there. DoDo states that specific wax has great filling ability in their brochure that comes with it- I have since received some suggestions on how to get that wax to cooperate better—it is SUPER hard paste. The remaining waxes just looked good, but I was not as impressed as with the previously mentioned waxes. No surprise there really, but Natty’s black beads are definitely on par with the higher priced brands post application.
It doesn’t appear these waxes play well on top of PBL, synergy and dodo nano state they have nano particles in them so I figured they would be a no brainer on working together. Synergy beads still looked best at 4 weeks but it looks like some of the others were not doing so well. I have topped PBL with synergy before on my Frontier but I never checked beading at any intervals except day 2 after curing.

I may have messed up the beading by using Pinnacle LGRW and UBER both once during the 4 week period, but I’m not sure how much that would actually affect the beading….however I did wash the trunk lid with PBL shampoo before the 4 week pics were taken. All sheeted very well but I’m not sure that is a surprise at the 4 week mark considering they’re on top of 2 layers of PBL v1. Any thoughts on that?
I don’t plan to top the coating with anything besides perhaps black hole for a car show- I would probably top the PBL with synergy, though, and I actually did on my hood and roof.
I have since moved on to another experiment on my trunk lid, so there won’t be any further updates but wanted to share what I noticed over those 4 weeks.
Thanks for viewing.

on a side note: so I was looking up beading pics from years ago on my car and all the beads have that white dot in them...
so weird
I used distilled water- I always buy it from HEB, always same brand...but that doesn't happen on any other vehicles beading pics I've taken with the same watersame water

I don't get it..it looks like its soap suspended at the top of the water...whatever it is..it appears to be lighter than water droplet because it rises to the top

or perhaps im just overthinking it

That's what I used to think too.

I stopped paying attention

lol

well damnit I gotta know what that is

its not the flash as some stated previously on my other thread (I have posed this question for over two years or so without an answer)

it shows up with/without flash

I doubt its metallic flake reflecting because, well it LOOKS like soap!

Mine aint got no metal flake, so............

I really used to think it was soap.

Now I gotta pay attention.

Mine does that too, that is the little white dot. Always thought it might be soap. Now you have me wondering. Light refraction?

Thanks for the effort. I always like testing these sorts of things, versus just assuming conventional wisdom is correct.

Awesome test. Thanks for putting it together.
Thank you. I wanted to keep it going longer but I had a bigger itch to start something else.

Not a clue. Don't see how it could be light refraction but I didn't pay much attention in science class. I thought maybe it was the water but I've seen those white dots in pics from 2012 on my photobucket account. And even switched water. Definitely looks like soap to me but that can't be so.

Was that on black paint too?

Thanks. The way I see it, I have the products and time so why not try out things for myself. I'm all for advancing knowledge, even if it is only mine.
