Hey everyone,
I'm new to DC and i'm definately a beginner detailer, if that. I would also like to apologize in advance for not dropping by in the New to DC section. I'm just really excited about this polish compound i found.
I got my '97 Ford Explorer used, frDom a dealer on Long Island, NY in really good shape, atleast by my standards for a used car. I truely fell in love with the car and i have OCD with the car's looks. Since i got the car in October i didn't really realize that the windows were covered, stained, or etched with this hard water stain looking pattern. I realized this problem about a month ago, when the sun actually decided to show itself. So of course having OCD i went nuts. I went to a detailing place where all the really nice cars are detailed (compared to mine). The guy told me that they were hard water stains from a sprinkler system and it would cost me $200 to get them removed from the windows and the paint. I didnt have that kind of money to spend on it, especially not having any idea how good this guy's work was so i turned to the internet. I found you guys and was thoroughly impressed. I still dont know a quarter of the words you guys are using ( its all profanity to me lol). So i searched the forums and found a lot about water stains. Unfortunately i tried all that you guys had advised with no luck.
I searched the internet again looking for a polisher or acid bath type cleaner. I came up with a Product called Rhodite Glass Polishing Compound from this company called EastWood
[URL="http://www.eastwoodco.com/[/URL]
So i ordered their glass fine scratch remover(the compound - Part # 40011B) and the buffing wheel (Part # 40011 A ).
it was pretty straight foward, the directions were on the jar. So away i went with my electric drill and this gravy consistancy compound. Hoping and praying it would all work, i wiped the coumpound off and BAM! NO MORE SPOTS!!!
I attached Before and Afters. My apologizes for being so close up, the tinted windows make it hard to see from far away.
The rear Passenger Side windows is almost done, took me 45 minutes ( again i'm not a pro, and was scared of using the polish). One pound of the compound and the wheel cost me round $45, and they said that the wheel would last for all the windows. (its felt)
thought i'd share just in case someone had the same problem as i did.
Thanks for all the usefully information though, this site has become my favorite on the net!
PS - is that stain or etching really on my paint??? and how would i go about taking it off the paint?
thanks!
