Hello all! I am new to the forum and I've a question: My little silver Honda has very glossy, but water etched, paint. (Bought it that way) I would like to get rid of the etching but I am very confused by all the products out there. I was thinking of getting a Porter Cable 7424 and using those orange power pads with 3m fine cut rubbing compound and then swirl mark remover followed by Klasse then Blitz wax. Since buying the car used I have kept it clayed, polished, waxed, etc. but I've not done anything about the etchings and they drive me crazy! I am ready to banish them. Any advice anyone could offer would be much appreciated. Thanks so much, :) . Fiona.

Etched water spots in the clearcoat can be a nightmarr to remove. What causes this typically is acid rain. The clearcoat has been permanently damaged by the acids in the rainwater.

A PC won't remove them. I have acid rain etching on my car to and have tried several products to no avail. Next step is a rotary polisher and a cutting pad. I will literally have to buff off a thin layer of the clearcoat to remove the etching. If that doesn't work the final step is wetsanding the clearcoat.

So you can see this is not an easily solved issue as one solution can lead to another problem. You might want to do a search for "acid rain" and see if the archives hold more insight.

Hope this helps.
