Washed and clayed on Sunday, applying Zaino Tuesday.

If I washed and clayed on Sunday, is it OK to Zaino straight away today (Tuesday), or should I rewash the car? The context is the following:



I have to wash my car at a manual car wash or at a friend's place since my apartment complex does not allow people to wash cars on the premises. I usually go to a manual car wash with a couple of buckets, late at night, and take my time. However, for the full wash-clay-wash-zaino detail, a friend of mine offered to let me do it at his house with his hose etc.



However, the wash-clay-wash-dry took a few hours, and I had already imposed long enough, that I decided I would drive home, and Zaino it the next day. Since then, the car has been garaged, and the drive home was late at night, when dust etc, has settled on the roads.



For the future, I think I will order ONR or something, and wash at my apartment. But for now, is it better to go to the manual car wash again tonight, wash it, then drive it back home and Zaino it? I don't think they would be OK with me sitting there for an hour or two, applying three coats of Z2 on my car. The issue is that the drive home would almost be the same distance that I drove on Sunday!



The alternative is that I let the car sit without paint protection for a few more days until the ONR gets here.

I would not recommend applying a wax or sealant w/o washing the car first, even driving home from the car wash. Too much risk you get get depris on the car and rub it into the paint causing all sorts of marring. Would your friend mind you going back and washing and Zaino'ing the car at his house again?



If not, I would wait for the ONR to show up, go to a hardware store and buy a 5 gallon water container, and take both the ONR, the water container full of water, two buckets, two wash mits, your Zaino, and an applicator and just had to a public park and wash and Zaino your car. So long as you don't leave garbage around, I don't anyone will car you are in a park.

That sounds good. I think I can do an ONR wash at my apartment place, especially after the office closes. Since I'm not draining any water down the storm drain with the ONR, no one will mind. I could sit at the manual car wash, Zaino-ing it, but I think they would be a little pissed if I'm there for the ~2 hours I'd need to apply three coats of Z2, buffing, and the Z8.

ONR is a product that allows you to wash without rinsing. ONR (optimum no rinse) is a rinseless car wash that you mix into water. Just mix it into a bucket with water and wash with your mitt and dry. Many people call this waterless cash washing, but it is an erroneous term since you need water to mix with ONR to wash, but you do not need a hose. FWIW, if the car is filthy and caked, i would hose it off at a DIY play first, than get it clean and shiny with ONR. For most normal conditions, just ONR is fine. Search the forums for "how to wash with ONR" posts and you can find great step-by-step instructions. Also, there are numerous pro detailers who almost solely use ONR, so as long as you have proper washing approachs, you won't scratch.



I live in an apt. complex as well but we have a hose . I still use ONR sometimes because its very easy. I also use OCW since I have on garage (its optimum's car wax - wipe on, wipe off, no haze). Great stuff!
