Warm Wash?

I have been washing my car after waiting only 30min to 1hr after driving. Is this very bad? I ONR if that means anything.

as long as the paint is not scorching hot it shouldn't be a problem. other than what the above said about in the engine bay

I see, so a little warm is ok. That really good news for me. How do I know when the wheels are cool enough to clean? I am sorry, I know I should really wait a long time, but it would really be a saver.

If they are cool to the touch then the wheels can be cleaned. It is all specific to the wheel/tire cleaner. Almost all the ones I used say to use on a cool wheel. Most car washes say to use on a cool surface.

I figure on a blistering hot day + driving around in NYC traffic, then drenching the wheel/brakes in cold water should be a good thing.

Washing the paint though isn't much of an issue, I do it all the time when my paint is warm to the touch because I don't have drains in my garage, let alone a garage, lol. It doesn't get as hot as the wheels/brakes.

You can rinse your brakes and wheels about 10-20 mins after driving....I mean, what happens when you drive through puddles? Chances are, if the car is hot, the water in your hose will initially be hot, so it shouldn't be a big deal.

As long as you thoroughly rinse your brakes and wheels with water until they are cool, you can use a wheel cleaner. It's just a matter of how long you should wait before actually rinsing, and 10-20 minutes has been fine in my experience.

Matt - I swerve around them, LOL j/k.

Driving through a puddle is not the same as drenching the wheel/brakes with cold water through a hose. I rather take caution and go on the side of safety and I personally just leave my car until the next morning to wash when it is cool.

That works, too. Usually when it's hotter than hell here in FL, I pull the car in the garage for an hour and turn the fan on before washing (also because I need to go inside in the A/C and re-hydrate myself before taking on such a task).

i think they say to use on cool wheels not because the sprayer works better on cool wheels but you dont want metal to go through very fast temperature changes as it can warp/crack. as long as your wheels are not hot to the touch, sprayign them with water wont hurt them. a little warmness is fine.
