Wanting new Garage

Hey guys how are you?

I am currently in the market for a new wooden garage.

Now it is only to house the car and let me polish/store it.

It will have the polishes and accessories within it.

The car I have just now is 4.3 metres long by 1.8 metre wide.

What sort of floor space do you think I should get I was thinking maybe half a metre around the sides and maybe a 3/4 of a metre at the ends, So I can have space for my polishes.

What else do you reccomend within the garage lighting wise, I have already got 2*500W work lights.

I was thinking 2 or 3 flourescent as well.

Heater?

Tell me what you think and and could you post any of your one car garages please.

Much appreciation

John.

As far as work room I would give yourself more than half of a meter on the sides. I would say no less than 5' (2 meters) all around so you have adequate rom to manuver yourself and place products/machines. Maybe you should even think about making it larger than that in the event your next car is much bigger than you expect. As far as heating is comcerned I have a ceiling-corner mounted unit that runs on Natural Gas (they also make ones for Propane) that adjusts by thermostat. I am not sure on the BTUs but it can heat the garage up in the winter inside of 10 minutes. For lighting get more than you think . . . I have a total of 18 bulbs (9 doubles) each 6ft. long for a two car garage to give you an idea; and that does not include the lighting over the workbench area. You'll be glad you added the extra lighting. Good luck with the project.

im thinkin of a wooden garage, then dry wall.

ill get some posters up and move my shelves out there with the polish. i will wash outside then move inside to polish/perfect it will not be a working garage to be honest as I am not very hands on with cars.

So I may also put a covering on the floor or paint it.

John, ill keep you posted!!

Here's some pics of my 3.6x6.5 metre brick garage cost me £7300 last year.

I can open all my doors almost fully, so would say its about right for size. I have 2 flouresant lights, wouldn't mind more and 2 double sockets.

I really like that and if a merc can fit in, then my astra coupe can. I will be buying a supra RZ so have to get that in too. I was thinking 3.5m width and 6m long. Could you tell me what the size of your car is? and do you find there is enough space to polish the front and back without moving it?

Thanks in advance!! JJ

Yeah room to polish front and back, I have shelving unit at the front too and there's still plenty of room.

Here's a good link for car sizes from that Compton garage site Click Me Here's my car sizes Click Me

Anything else you need to know just ask :xyxthumbs

Oh by the way them Compton prefabricated garages have show sites, My local dealer lets you try your car in their garages to check for size etc, might be worth a visit to your local Compton dealer/site to try for size ;)

JJ - I think you saw pics of mine in another thread. It's a bit of a squeeze at the sides but there is enough room for me to work with the PC in relative comfort and front/rear I have something like 1.5 - 2 metres working space. Then again, I've just got a diddy little 205!

BTW Aletank - sweet garage mate - and almosy enough room in the roofspace for a games room!

Hey andy thanks yeh I think I do it was kinda joined onto your house?

See the thing is I need something that will fit the astra coupe and then onto the toyota supra MKIV, so I gotta take into consideration the sizes. Im just saving lots of pictures of peoples garages to get more ideas.

I think I will get three tubes of lighting and have my flourescent site lights. I think that should do.

7K is a bit expensive but luckily my dad has a few joiners that would do the work and a builder, so we are planing on a cedar clad wooden shell. As for the roof.......no idea, I fancy a normal roof so I could use the upper but as storage with access via a door.

But I will keep you updated !!

John.
