Wait a minute...is #16 gone or not???

For the last couple months (maybe more?) I've been hearing that #16 was discontinued. Then I read this on Autogeek.net...



Interesting fact: A while back, this long-time American favorite seemed to be losing ground to the volumes of new waxes hitting the market. In fact, there was talk of it being discontinued. AutoGeek stopped carrying it for a brief time, due to lack of demand. Weâ€â„¢re glad to be bringing it back by popular demand; it looks like Meguiarâ€â„¢s #16 is coming back into its heyday once again. A quality product that has withstood the test of time. (And, no, the official word is that it absolutely wonâ€â„¢t be discontinued.)



So is it discontinued or what?
 
I bet #16's popularity on Autopia is the reason for the popular demand...and with good reason. It is the best value of any LSP I've used. You should be able to get 50-70 applications per can, it looks great and is very durable. What's not to like?



I really hope it doesn't go away.

I knew it had to be too good to be true.



If you need some, just drive up to Dry Ridge and get some from my kids. They took three products back with them to use on the cars at their Mom's house-Vanilla Moose, #16 and Quikshine.
 
I was thinking about ordering another can and maybe some Nattys, and I saw that Autogeek and SMP still have it.



So it has been discontinued right?

Yes it has, SMP just ran into a good deal on a few cases and picked it up. When current supplies run out here in the States that will be it. It does seem like it will still be sold in the UK, so I'm sure some product swapping may be going on in the future. I've got about three cans so I'll be OK for a few years....

Yeah but the exchange rate will work against them maybe offseting the 'value for money' aspect, then theirs the postage ...



I am in Orlando this August if any floridans are interested, I will have room in my case to fetch some over as I bought loads of stuff back with me last time and will do the same again this time.



'UK cost' x 'exchange rate' will be fine by me.

From what I understand it's an offence to sell a product that isn't VOC compliant to the relevant states as it is to buy it. So as an example if someone in California wanted #16 they couldn't just source it from a shop or mail order from another state..... I may be wrong though.......
 
If it doesn't appear to be a retail transaction it would surely be OK? Just have to play the dumb Brit who didn't realise that it wasn't allowed!



There must be other products in the US that need to be banned first before a car wax!

many Advanced auto parts currently carry Collinite 845 on the counter-its one of the longest lasting carnaubas around-but it probably will be reformulated at some point
 
I recently picked up two cans of #16 on a special deal at Autogeek. I'm pretty sure it is discontinued for good if they are offering such a deal.
 
It will still be available outside the US as normal.... I know even Mike (Phillips) said he hadn't heard about this when Meg's UK told me but, he hasn't come back and corrected me so I guess thats the case for now.....

Where? In SE Michigan NONE of them carry the 845 :( Personally (I repeat personally) I think 845 is the best all-around LSP: Great looking wax, tough like a rock, a few drops cover a car, no weird requirements or mixes to follow, superb slickness, very easy to apply and remove, and if this doesn't convince you, it is very affordable. I already tried #16 and I think 845 is like #16 reloaded (beading, durability, looks, price) but much easier to apply and remove, specially with a PC.

I like applying #16 with the PC. I just tried it this weekend and it lays down a nice, uniform coat. It really makes buffing it off not as difficult as most have experienced!
