Viper's First Detail

Well all, after reading this board for a few weeks, I decided to get down and dirty with my 2000 GTS.

Ignorance lead me to think that my car was in great shape, until I learned about spider-webs and swirl marks!! After seeing many of the detail jobs on the site, I had to try it myself.

A trip to Lowes for a 7424 and an online trip to CMA for Menzerna IP and FP, some pads, and a Big Blue prepared me for the first go at detailing.

I had used Zaino in the past, and was advised by CMA that I did not need to go through the alcohol/water bath before polishing becasue the polish would remove the old wax and that I did not need to clay bar either becasue the IP and FP would remove surface contaminents. After a good wash, I leaned right in and began following the application instrucitons for the Menzerna products. After those, I applied two coats of Z5, and I think the car looks pretty damn good.

My only complaint is the Zaino....I don't know....in the past, it looked great, but it lacks something now...so I ordered P21S to change the look I have now. I think that I need a good carnuba to finish this thing off to look as good as I want it to look.

Now, I guess I have to go through the entire procedure again in order to apply the P21S??? Oh well, it will only make the car look better.

CHECK OUT THE PICS HERE AND TELL ME HOW I DID FOR MY FIRST TRY.... ALL PICS LABELED XXXXPRE ARE BEFORE THE PROCEDURE, AND ALL PICS LABELED XXXXPOST ARE AFTER THE PROCEDURE.

Did you wash with Z7 after applying the IP and FP? Zaino prefers a surface free of oils. This may be the reason for the difference in the appearence.

IP and FP are both filler free polishes. You have nothing to worry about. If you have already ordered the P21S, then great, but you could have saved yourself the trouble, gone to your local Harley dealership and picked up some S100 for about $15 and by all accounts, is the exact same as P21S. The Viper looks good though.

You could use a 50/50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water to remove the existing layers of Zaino, IP, and FP. Then repeat your Zaino process.

"...Menzerna polishes are water-based! Technically, they're an oil-in-water emulsion. They do contain a petroleum distillate but it's a lubricant, not a solvent. Menzerna polishes contain no solvent cleaners! They also contain no fillers, no glaze, no wax and no silicones."

Because Zaino is optically perfect, optimum results are achieved by using over an oil free paint.

There is nothing to worry about, and there is no reason to start your process over. If you are wanting to use the P21s/S100 as a topper over Zaino, just wash the car and add a coat. If you want only P21s/S100, then I suggest going over the car with Menzerna FP and applying the carnauba.

Car looks nice...now let's see some outside pics. :D

If you've ever used Menzerna, especially FP, you would then know that there is absolutely nothing but bare paint after you are done. Your towel just squeaks over the paint and I personally have used FP right before Zaino without a dawn or z7 wash and there have been no problems.
