Vin Number Break Down

I'm looking for a site that can tell me how a vin number breaks down...I'm not looking for a car fax on the car...more of what the break down of all the letters and number mean....like mfger plant, engine size, body, trim package, etc.

I've searched the net and can't seem to find a site that can tell me this for free...plenty of join sites for that matter.

If anyone is a member of car fax and would like to run the Vin for me that would be great.

There are no known sites where you can get that stuff for free. Here at the lot we have Carfax but it costs $15 per car and we even have a subscription. What are you trying to find out anyway?

It all depends on the make and model of the vehicle -- there isn't a universal code for all VINs. I would think a forum for that make or brand would have the information that you need.

My late father in laws Camry is a 96 but the trim package letters have fallen off some how..I'm trying to figure out what model it is...there where only three that year...DX, LE, XLE ...I know that its not the DX....I'm pretty sure that the vin will tell me this.

Reason is my mother in law wanted to give us the car, but she's going to need the money for various bills / burial...that said I told her I wanted to buy it off her..its just to good a car to pass up...and I can help her at the same time!

for a 96 the option package is not going to mean a whole lot ... it's more based on condition and mileage ... again a 13 year old car is not going to be worth much :passout:I'd guess between $2500 -$3000 ... does it have leather, V6, power everything?

Thanks that first one helped pretty good

Steve the car seems to be about 3500 to 4000...The Camry's hold decent value as used cars go...This one is in real decent shape...mechanically...body has some minor paint issues that I can work out...one small dent in the back that can by worked out by a dent less repair shop...inside is near mint...

The bottom line here is she will need to the cash for expenses...if its four grand then that's four grand more than she doesn't have now.

I knew that when she said, she wanted to give us the car, that wouldn't be...she is in such turmoil with all this her mind is thinking straight...I told her that I wanted the car, and we would work out the details after the services and all.

If you cannot figure it out I have a Galves used car guide and it gives the breakdowns on different trim levels.

Take it to a Toyota dealer they can tell you what it is and what it is worth.

that's a good idea, but what they would give you, what it can be sold for, and what they would sell it for are three totally different worlds.

best advice.... give your MIL what she needs to take care of her expenses and don't worry about what the car is worth ;)

Do you work for Toyota then? I've got a puzzle for you if you do. I've got an '05 Corolla XRS that has the build date of 04/04 on the door sticker. Since this was the first month the XRS trim level Corolla was made, I have been trying to find out where mine fits in the number. There were only like 6000 made in the '05 and '06 model years, so being built in the first month could have put me in the double digits as far as number out of 6000 I am. The serial number at the back end of the VIN is 319011 for what its worth. Any ideas on how to find out where mine fits in the XRS lineup?
