Very impressed with Optimum (spray) Car Wax

I read a review on another site where a professional detailer sectioned off about 40 panels on an RV for a test mule and applied all the top named waxes and sealants individually on each panel. He then drove the RV all winter in the cold and wet environment in Europe (I forget where... Briton maybe?). Optimum spray Car Wax was one of 4 or 5 remaining after his test finished. This impressed me so I had to give the product a try.

Every product you try is going to go on differently so I never know if I'll like a product until I try it. I gave the spray wax a try tonight and walked away impressed enough to come in here and write a quick review.

A little goes a long way. I'd give the trigger a 1/4 to 1/3 squeeze and easily cover a 2 foot x 2 foot area. The product wipes on easily, leaves a slight waxy/greasy area so you can tell where you have covered, and then within a few seconds goes clear and dries streak-free. It leaves a beautiful deep shine and you can use it on exterior plastics as well. Basically, the whole exterior of the car.

I bought this product mainly to use in door jams and on the wife's car, but I'm definitely going to use it to top off the carnuba wax on my car to give a little extra protection and hopefully extend the carnuba wax's life a little.

Great product. Later tonight I'm going to try the Blackfire Wet Diamond all metal sealant on my exhaust tips and a trial section on my wheels. I'll update with how that goes!

Great write-up. OCW is awesome. I love how easy it is to apply and the shine it provides. If it works as a pseudo drying aid, I might just get a gallon of it.

I figure I'll use the OCW once per month to keep things nice, fresh looking, and protected. I know the wax lasted around 4 months in the test I read, but you can never be too careful and the product isn't very expensive.

Whats up with all the reviews on this site, OCW has been out a long time there are quite a few !

I guess I figured I'd give it a review because there could be others, like myself, who only started researching products a few months ago. Maybe they're just starting now. They'll see this thread and look into the product.

I realize veterans of the site may be bored of a topic like this, but avoiding it is as easy as not clicking the link.

OCW is my favorite spray wax, actually it's my go-to LSP. I rarely use traditional paste or liquid LSP's anymore...even if they are more durable, the ease of reapplying a good spray sealant/wax makes it a moot point. Basically, I apply a good AIO as an occasional cleaner/base, then use OCW (or similar product) as the LSP and reapply every other wash or so. The car always looks just-waxed and is protected. Of course, it's a bit tougher in the winter when weekly washes aren't always feasible, but OCW is durable enough that it protects until the next time I can wash the car and reapply. Even in the winter, I rarely go a month without washing the car.

Its no sweat matey, I`m not complaining :brit just thought it was funny that out of all the OCW threads on Autopia you pick a one from a UK detailing site to post

AIO+Spray waxes were my approach for a good while. Probably the best traditional approach for a daily driver. OCW is tops as far as spray waxes go, both in durability and looks.

Yea, AIO+Spray Waxes are a tough combo to beat. The only reasons I rarely apply a traditional LSP are for a change of pace and the enjoyment of using it, and of course different products do have a slightly different look. Still, the spray waxed finish looks so good that it's hard justifying the extra work. Even on my garage queen, I almost always use OCW. Once in a while I'll throw on a coat of a high-end carnauba or sealant - yea, it looks a little different in certain lighting, but it's not a day and night difference, and it's difficult to say whether it's actually better. Years ago we didn't have a choice, but today's products are so user friendly that doing it the old-school way has lost a bit of its luster. I'd put spray sealants/waxes right up there with MF towels as the most significant advances/benefits to detailing. Besides OCW, I also use UQW, which I like but it's not as good as optimum, IMO (and I was using Z8 till I ran out). I've also used AW and FXSW, but I prefer the others.

I have to give some love to Griot's Spray On Wax after reading this post. While I haven't used OCW, the results I have gotten from the GG spray wax seems to mirror the reviews and comments I have read on the Optimum product.

I received a free sample of it when I purchased my GG buffer. Liked it so much I just ordered another 35 oz bottle this past week.
