Very dirty car....shame on me. Questions

I've been so busy this summer (I know...no excuses) that I've let my paint go pretty bad. My question is, what types of prep products should I use since it's very dirty. Are there any good pre-washes available that I can use even prior to the wash soap to loosen up the grime?

Also, I'm ordering more, but right now at my disposal I have the following products:

FMJ kit

Poorboys blue paste wax

Poorboys polish w/carunba

A few SSR's (I'll be doing in by hand this time around)

I forget...can I put FMJ over the polish? It will simply remove the polish correct? What can I combine with the FMJ for the winter??

Thanks a million everyone. :hifive:

For paint prepping, you definitely want to get a clay kit. Claybarring will get rid of bonded contaminants on the paint.

Before you wash, you can thoroughly blast the car with some water (not pressure washer) with a regular hose. After rinsing, then just use your car wash soap (maybe higher concentration for lubricity) and softly glide your wash mitt across the surface. Be sure to rinse out your wash mitt very often and use a 2 bucket wash method.

In your situation,i would use a foam gun first.Foam the car using a good shampoo, let it dwell(up to 5 mins),then give the car a good rinsing, and follow with a good wash using 2 buckets and plenty of mitts. As for the FMJ,you could combine the Natty's with it for the winter,if you already have it,or personaly i would top the FMJ with collinite 476.

thanks for the help guys. Can anything go under the FMJ (that I have)? I was thinking the poorboys polish, or SSR2 under the FMJ.

Or... should I just buy Intensive Polish II for under the FMJ?

As far as paint prep I was thinking something along the lines of P21 paintwork cleanser or pre-wash.

Thanks guys.

I would just use the SSR's and/or the poorboys polish, seeing as you already have it,both will be fine under FMJ.FWIW,i have put FMJ over Carnauba ( zymol destiny),without bonding issues :nixweiss
