I have often thought to myself what comes off the headliner fabric, often neglected part of a detail, tells the history of the vehicle's interior.

Dashboard and other sensitive areas I used Griots Interior with various microfiber cloths.

The rest of the interior I used various all purpose cleaners with a variety of tools.

Blackfire Interior Protectant was used on the interior.

I cleaned the undercarriage area with Optimum Power Clean and used Blackfire Wheel and Tire Cleaner for the wheels and tires. Undercarriage was later spritz with Bare Bones.

I sprayed the car with foam and let it dwell for 5 minutes, rinse and foam again immediately followed by a traditional 2 bucket wash. Poorboys Super Slick & Suds for the bucket and foam gun. I spritzed problem areas with P21S.

attachment.php

All of the paint chipped areas had visible rust, I applied Carpro IronX paste to the affected areas. This product is such a versatile game changer.

And then applied Optimum FerreX to the entire car. After 5 to 15 minutes of dwell time I washed the car off with a fresh bucket of Poorboys Super Slick & Suds.

I then continued the decontamination process with the Cobra Clay Mitt using the same soap solution as lubrication.

After taping around the headlights, I started with 1000 grit working my way up to 3000 grit sandpaper. Seasoned a 3inch orange Lake Country CCS pad with FG400, then went at the headlights with 3 drop. I think the quality of the abrasive and that it is a diminishing abrasive led me to not following up with a finishing polish on the headlights.

The car's left headlight, I went at it a second time with FG400 to get it to my satisfaction. I just didn't get a picture of it.

Protected the vehicle with Blackfire Crystal Seal.

Any questions or suggestions are welcomed, hope you enjoyed my work. Sorry for not producing more after pictures, particularly interior and 2nd shot with left headlight. It was time for me to get some sleep.

Did you seal the headlights with the crystal seal as well, or did you do something else after you sanded them?

Congrats, Rod73 on your 1st Detail !

Wow - that Interior was nasty... Looks like its 100% better ! Great job !

You killed the dead plastic headlights too ! Sure makes a difference to get them back to normal... Menzerna has always been a favorite of mine, and even Meguiars 105 really works great here too..

You are absolutely correct - the Headliner carries the History of what was floating in the air in there and lots of times, what flew up into the air and hit it.. :)
You took some nasty " Life " off of it - great job !

Great paint decontamination process - bet it was a lot cleaner and smoother after that...

Did you do any paint correction with your PC ?

Well, at the end of that day, or the 8 hrs or so you worked, bet you learned a lot, eh ? :)
Every time you go out there, you will learn more about your processes, which ones to modify, speed up, slow down, improve on, etc..

Your own "groove" will grow out of these first times and it will all settle into a great process - your own process - after awhile..

Just be thinking about it a lot while you are doing it and it doesnt hurt to go over it sometimes after...

We are all proud of you ! Great Job ! Looks so much better !

Thank you everyone. I do feel like with every detail, I have improved my skillset.

I didn't get into paint correction because of the level of service I agreed to offer for the price. Plus a friend was already getting a sweet deal considering.

I definitely wanted to be careful with his headliner but I also knew a lot of crap was I'm bedded their.

That was a tough first job! And look at that thing bleed purple! I bet it felt like sandpaper. Nice job!
