I was at Pep Boys today, buying up half gallons of Armor All (not going to be near my Meguiar's distributor to see if they have Hyper Dressing in stock) and I saw a wet/dry cannister vacuum that is 12 volt powered. They also had one that is rechargable too, but it cost $29 and this one was $16.99. After the Euroshark rechargable, not sure I want to go that route again (the battery packs only last a few months and replacements are not readily available nor cheap).
Anyway, I figure for less than $20, even if it is crap, I haven't wasted much. I get home and unpacked the unit. It has a 1 gallon resevoir, 3 foot hose, 15 foot plug and a crevice and larger brush attachment. I plugged it into my 12v port and tried it out. It seemed to do a decent job on my carpets although the crevice tool isn't really long enough to get into deep areas. The suction is adequate for lightly soiled surfaces, but if your floormats are caked with beach sand, I don't think this vac is nearly powerful enough. Looks like it will work fine for quick cleanups but it isn't a substitute for a full sized plug in wet/dry vac.
I bought this unit because I have a few customers a month (on average) where electricity is not available or convienent. Unless I run into something trashed or filled with pet hair, I think this vacuum will do a decent job. I don't know that I would use it as a wet vac, not sure if it is strong enough but I will test it out to see.
Anyway, if you live in an apartment and don't have easy access to plugs or don't want to leave a door open to run a cord, this vacuum may work out well for you provided you don't expect it perform like a 5 horsepower vac.
BTW, they don't give any specs on the motor other than its operating voltage is 12 volts, the motor rating is 110-120 watts and the recommended fuse is 10 amps.
