Vacuums: Best bang for the buck?

Well, I did my first detail job today and my house vacuum did not cut it as a good car vac. What would be my best bet for a good car vac without spending a fortune?

Not much experience with vaccums, but I got a 1.5 hp, 1 gallon (it's more than enough for my needs) shop vac from Canadian Tire. It's wet/dry, very powerful (sucks everything I could possibly throw at it), complete 2 years warranty, and the best part: 35$ CDN!!

Not to mention it's super light, on wheels, and you can get a whole bunch of accessories.

I could have gotten a bigger one, but for a small, powerful (very)wet/dry vaccum for the car, it's just perfect.

I purchased a Craftsman 12 gallon wet/dry vac. It is still sitting in the box waiting to move into its new home, but I believe it will be killer. Its description is below. It is regularly $79--but I got it on sale for $59. It is on sale now through 5/15 for $69.

Craftsman 12 gal. Wet-Dry Vac, 5 hp

Features quiet operation that results in comfortable use at minimal noise level and on board tool storage. Dual mode port converts easily from quiet vac to a powerful blower.

Features cord wrap that stores cord on vac. Poly tank is dent and rust resistant. Dual wheel 4 caster system makes mobility easy. Roto-Lokâ„¢ hose connection keeps hose from detaching from vac. Compact design increases stability. Auto float liquid shut-off eliminates vac overflowing and protects the motor. Accepts optional collection filter bag and inlet accepts 2-1/2 in. or 1-1/4 in Roto-lokâ„¢ hose.

Any chance you might have a brand name? Sounds like it might be handy to use in/on a boat. Presently, I am using a 1 gal.(?) Shop-Vac that isn't all that impressive.

We have a hoover "whirlwind" and it supposedly tells you where your carpet is dirty. Heh. It works well for anything though. Sucks like a beast.

Compare dollars to motor AMPS and you should get the most bang for the buck......

Motor AMPS should be on or near the motor and this will tell you how much juice the baby will pull the more the marrier...........which equates to ENERGY...so more energy equals more suction power you have with Vacuums...

Ignore all the VAcuum HP crap cause it is BS.......it is marketing and has no real meaning.........

Dood... go to Costco, get the Shop-Vac AllAround 3 gallon wet/dry vac ... I have the older, 2 gallon / weaker version for the same price a year ago and it's awesome for picking up crumbs around the kitchen and everything else you'd need in your car.

I just used it to pick up thousands of shards of glass from my friend's car that just got broken into... it totally did the job well.
