I am ready to buy a good wet/dry Vac and i am a little overwhelmed with all the different brands and motor size and tank sizes. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice as to what to buy. I am willing to spend around 150 dollars for a vacuum I just want to make sure i get a good product. I plan on doing work on cars in my garage and noise and being portable are not important. I really appreciate all the help I get here at DC, I need to try to put my two cents in more often so i can spread the little knowledge that i have recieved here. Thanks again for all the help.

Check out the craftsmans. I got a huge one for about 60 or so dollars. It is i think 6hp and does an awesome job.

I would go with a ShopVac, I have had a Pro model 16gal. 6.5HP from Lowes for almost two years now without any problems. For being so powerful it is actually really quiet and the attachment tools are cheap and plentiful. The only downside is they are slightly more expensive when compared with some other brands but worth it IMO. Lowes does put them on sale occasionally and I think they offer 20% off your initial purchase when you open a line of credit, just a suggestion.

I'm not sure if you have Big Lots up in Boston, but it's one of those discount stores and I've seen some 10HP ShopVac vacuums for about $30 brand new.

I received a wall mounted 6 horse craftsman wet/dry vac for christmas and absolutely love it. It was a gift so I don't know how much it sold for but I'm pretty sure it was less than $100. :bigups

I personally like Rigid wet/dry Vacs. I think my contractor grade was 79.00 at Home Depot and comes with all sorts of attachments, including a Crevice Tool and car detailing head.Ease of use, (ie. removing filters, changing heads etc.) and reliability are what I like most, and it really sucks it up. After you get that, you can cruise over to another section of Home Depot and pick up the Bissell "Little Green Machine", which is a nice little carpet extractor for about 70.00 and you will be on your way.

Over the summer I bought the 4 gallon, 5HP Rigid vac to replace a big, clunky 16 gallon craftsman vac. I wasn't sure if I really "needed" it, but bought it anyway. It turned out to be an awesome purchase. It works extremely well. The fact that it's very easy to move around makes it much more enjoyable to use. I find that I use it a lot more than my big 16 gallon vac just because I can carry it around - like in the house to do small cleanups.

I'd recommend to anyone with a large sized vac to pic up one of these, or even the 4 gallon craftsmen model. When this one goes I won't hesitate to buy another one to replace it.

:yeah I agree with the last 2 posts. Just bought the 4 gal 5 horse and it really works well and it's small and light. Got lots of power even with the 20 ft hose that came with it. i think it's a 20. comes with a 7 also. and I also bought the kit with extra attachments.

I use a Stainless Steel 14 gal 6.5 hp Shop Vac I purchased at Lowe's (149.00) and it's an awesome machine with plenty of sucking power. Oh, it have a 12 foot hose making it feasible to leave the vac in one spot and vac the entire car or van.

I bought the 4 gallon, 5HP Rigid vac and I love it. Compact, Long cord, long hose, flex hose that stretches from 4-10 feet, easy to carry around and more powerful than my huge Craftsman 16 gallon. I like it too because it came with a kit to hang it on the wall. I absolutely love it
