for u folks that have a fax machine how do u use it to aquire new business? Ive faxed flyers around to serveral businesses and have had no luck. when trying to solicit this way what do you folks say to hopeflly intice a few potential clients. could some one email me a sample flyer that may help my cause. [email protected] thanks in advance for your help.

You are at the mercy of whomever is pulling the faxes off the machine. In the office where I work we have a garbage can right next to the fax machine and that's where "junk" faxes go.
I would say that most advertising faxes meet the same fate :dunno

I'd say you're probably better off posting flyers in high traffic public locations like supermarket strip malls and in the windows of business of course if they allow you. I saw a detailer's flyer recently in the window of a dry cleaner and a busy cafe is located right next door. This is a good spot where the chances of the flyer being noticed is higher.

:yeah Often times, I'm the one pulling them off the machine in the morning, and anything that looks like advertising goes straight into the round file.

Yeah, I really dislike fax advertising. When I walk over to our fax machine and notice it's out of paper and there are 6 pages of ads sitting in the receiving tray, I become instantly infuriated. Sorry, it's just really, really annoying, especially if you are waiting on a fax from one of your vendors or customers. I would suggest alternate forms of advertising.

:yeah :yeah :yeah

Gotta go with the majority here. If I see another "hot stock" or the like I'm about ready to fax an M-80 over to the other end!! :ticked

Supermarkets are a great place to advertise. It's always good to check first to make sure it's ok to post. I like the smaller stores myself; seems to be a more recieving crowd there. I've also talked to local self serve car washes and put up a tent in the lot for a couple days and do "hand glazes". It brings more business to the wash and is a great trap to get some good coin made in a day.

This form of advertising is very similar to SPAM. Don't expect great things out of it.

Unfortunately I am going to have to agree that fax advertising rarely, if ever works. However, typically in these cubicle farms, they have a post board in the lunch room or wherever the employees congregate. I remember often that local small businesses (e.g. sandwich shops, mom n' pop garages, etc) would post up their business cards or menus whatever, and offer some sort of discount, typically %10 if you mentioned the ad when you called in.
Instead of faxing why not try going to these places - I am assuming they are local - and asking if you can put up an ad for you small local business on their board. I bet you would get some hits.
Anyway just my opinion, thought I would throw that in there.

Boy I had no idea that folks were that opposed to faxing. I just do this because during the course of my day I'M at my full time job and don't have the opprotunity to get out to places face to face.

Businesses get tons of spam-like business solicitations via their fax machines every day. It is very likely that your solicitations for business are going straight to the trash along with the dozens of offers for free vacations and copy machine toner.

You would be better served by dressing up nicely and visiting these firms in person. Just walk in and talk to the individual at the front desk. Tell her who you are, that you are starting to do business in their area, and that you would like to make your services known to the employees of the company. The receptionist will often pass around your cards for you, place cards at the front desk or in the 'local services and resturaunts' folder kept at the desk....and if you are really lucky, she will put an email together on your behalf and send it to EVERY employee of the company. To get that perk, you might want to offer to wash or detail her car for free.

It only takes a minute or two to visit these companies during your lunch hour. And you will get MUCH better results than sending unsolicited business offers.

I started mobile about 15 years ago. When I decided to do it full time (9 years or so ago) I thought faxing would be a great idea. I bought a cheap one (still have it lol) and started faxing from the phone book. In less then a day I got a call informing me it was against the law to do what I was doing. "Junk faxing to any fax machine in the U.S. without the recipient's prior express consent is illegal under federal law, but many junk faxers continue to ignore the law". What I did for a while though was get a list together of fax numbers of offices I did work at and got their permission to fax specials to them. I didn't do a lot but it helped.
