1. i noticed quite a bit of vibration (6.5" pads, 6 counter) even at speed 4 so i didn't dare take it higher. is this normal? this leads to my 2nd q

2. is it necessary to have the pad perfectly centered? because my pads dont have a wedge nor a center hole to tell me exactly where the center is.

3. Am i supposed to start and finish with the pad on the paint? my first startup was in mid air and whatever i applied to the pad flew everywhere :rofl

4. after i went over some areas, i noticed occasional metal dots mostly on the front of the car. I'm guessing these are just chip marks?

5. I was going to apply zymol auto polish but it came out really runny so i threw it away. I also had a turtle wax scratch and swirl remover which i assume is just a filler so i didn't use that. I only applied nxt to the car using the pc... should i get some better products before i use my polisher again? i already have op, aio and sg in mind.

6. since there is so much vibration, can i polish at speed 4 and just make more passes to make up for speed 6?

Thank you all

mine actually vibrates the most on 4-4.5 after that it settles into a much more comfortable rythum. The handle is a PIA, get a couple of philips head screws and screw them in on each side with a bit o locktite, that will eliminate some of the chatter.

Here are some answers to your questions...

1. It's perfectly normal for the PC to experience vibration. The handle itself should not be the cause of vibration. Besides, that's the point of the polisher.

2. It's generally a good idea to have your pad centered but it doesn't necessarily have to be perfectly in place.

3. Pad on when you start, pad on when you finish.

4. Those dots are pretty likely to be chips.

5. Better products are always suggested.

6. It really depends on what product you'll be using. In some cases you can get away with only using speed 4 and some cases not. It's also preference as well.

Hope this helped somewhat.

ericlala- a few thoughts:

The (hollow) handle transmits vibration; I forget the specifics of the proper explanation, but the shock waves travel down the handle getting amplified as they go. Lose the handle; I haven't used; mine in over a decade.

Yeah, get easy to use products. If you can still find some, get the 3M PI-III products I use for almost every job: PI-III RC 05933 and the milder PI-III MG 05937. Try looking HERE . These products *work*, and work easily, by hand/PC/rotary. Get 'em while they're still around. BTW, these are what I use to prep for the Klasse twins.

Speed 6 seems to behave differently from lower speeds used longer; perhaps it breaks down the polish differently.

Heh heh, you kind of taught yourself the answer to "pad on the surface for on/off?", huh...
