So I finlly had a chance to use the K twins this weekend since hte weather finally got cooler and my platinum protection seemed to be fading.
I first washed with Dawn and while rinsing I could see the water not bead as much. I guess there was still a bit of paltinum on the paint since the difference in beading was significant.
Anyway, I decided not to dry since I was going to just lube the care again to clay it, but I realized after one pass of the clay that there was just too much water on the car. I used the CWB to get off most of the water (best tool ever) and proceeded to clay.
I probably went through 3/4 of the bottle, but this was the first time the car had ever been clayed (10 yrs old) so I figure I had to apss over areas more then the normal number of times. I did notice though that even after getting claen areas of the clay, I would sometimes get black smudges. I wasn't wiping away the excess lube and just let it dry as I was going to wash again, so this may have been an issue. But, I would like to know if anyone else has had this happen before? It was almost like the dirt was being pulled up fromt he paint, but then not getting stored into the clay and just sitting on the surface.
After claying, I washed with MGC and dryed. All those black marks from claying came off with ease except for some on the roof. I the did 2 passes of AIO with dry MFs only buffing off after the second. The first MF seemed to get pretty dirty still. Is this normal or did I not clean the car well enough? I could just be the black stuff on the roof I wasn't able to get totally off.
Anyway, I was a little disappointed with the AIO. I probably used a bit more then needed, but there were some water spots on the car that hadn't etched the clearcoat (had only been there for a week when the sprinklers watered the car) and AIO didn't seem to touch them. Although, the AIO did add a slick feel to the car. Couldn't get the paint to squeek though
I then applied a coat of SG and it did seem to go on without trouble. Use a dry MF and applied a little bit. I've gotta say, when putting white solution onto a while car is very hard to see where you need to place it. The plus side though is that streaks and haze are more difficult to notice. This morning, I did also see fewer of the waterspots I mentioned earlier. Is this normal to see an improvement as the SG cures?
The car was outside all night while drying, so I'll need to wash again before buffing off, but I figure this will be more then enough time. I'll do another SG coat at that time.
Overall, it does look nice but I'll need to check it in the sun to tell for sure. While I like the ease of use and the stated durability, I'm just not getting those wow results yet. Hoefully more time and usage will make this better. Too bad that after doing my GFs car next week, I won't get to use the twins for another few months. I found waxing and detailing to be very claming - even with some old Metalica songs blaring on the stereo
