My buddy brought over his 89 GT to be detailed, the car was repainted and was in TERRIBLE shape. I started off using the porter cable with Perfect it III RC, it came out better but was taking to long because it was so bad. So we whipped out his fathers makita rotary, the thing was real old but he had some good pads and it worked very well. I was real scared at first, didn't want to burn the paint or anything, or create rotary holograms. Amazingly, I did not burn the paint nor did I create holograms.. I got a swirl free finish!! I was very pleased with the results however.....
I noticed something very weird in paint, the car was repainted.. it's gunmetal grey.. before we started polishing it the paint was a solid dark grey color, after making one pass with the PC and Perfect it I noticed that it was leaving metallic streaks, by that I mean the paint a different color then other spots.. it wasn't the base coat, some spots had metallic grey and other spots were just solid grey, I'll try to get some pictures to show it more
