UPP vs. NXT

alright gang........for those that now have had a chance to play with NXT and are famailiar with UPP, how does UPP compare to NXT. Past threads suggest both offer a great deep wet versus klasse, zaino, etc on darker paint. In my case, it's black I'm working with.

I haven't tried them side by side, but NXT over UPP x 3 on my Accord deepened the color slightly and seemed real close gloss and wetness-wise. Slickness is very similar also, especially after a couple hours have passed since you've used NXT. One big advantage (at least to me) that NXT has is that you can buff off the excess in 10-15 minutes vs. 45-60 with UPP.

Durability comparisons can't be made yet.

I was planning to go AIO/SG/UPP route. I have AIO & SG already soooo.............it was just a matter of availibility & shipping. I have plenty of other supplies so all I really need to order was just the *topper*. Shipping for just the UPP would have cost me 1/2 of what UPP costs.

NXT on the other hand with the Meguiars shipping special, is a win-win situation. Drying time and also the fact that it can somewhat be used in the sun is another ++.

Just not sure which one would offer the extra depth I'm looking for because I'm using it as a topper.

UPP is a very fine , no excellent product but I must say that the NXT on my pristine black Z28 is really better. I did a test area (hood) with just IHG, Clearkote QuikShine wipedown and applied the NXT. I also applied the NXT over the UPP. The NXT did enhance the color clarity on both surfaces. Some call this darkening. This feature plus the extreme ease of usage of the NXT gives it an advantage. No smearing, streaking or hazing with NXT on this vehicles finish.

It is the LSP product that I have been trying to create with the glazes... extremely wet appearance, even, deep finish.:bounce

Now I can see why Mike was sooooo excited about this product.

One suggestion... Please make a less glitzy appearing bottle. ;)

blkZ28Conv,

Have you noticed how NXT looks better/more reflective about 2-4 hours after you apply/remove it? :D

The next day after I applied NXT to the hood of my 7 and to my wifes new X5, I noticed a real pop to its look! :xyxthumbs I also noticed how it felt more slick to the touch.

Cheers,

AMP01, I'm surprised. For some reason, I experienced the complete opposite. NXT felt less slick the longer I left it on. I'm guessing some oils may have evaporated, but I can't say for sure. As far as appearance, they both look the same - good!

Amp01,

YES!!!!

I am more impressed with NXT with each day. Sort of reminds me of how Zaino improved with each passing day and further curing.

I think what he means is that a few hours after you buff off the excess is when the slickness and gloss improve. I've noticed the same phenomenom on all 6 vehicles I've used it on now.

I've been applying it to the vehicle, wait 10-15 minutes like it says on the bottle and then buffing off the excess. I see no reason to leave it on any longer than Meguiars suggests. Same with UPP-they say 45-60 minutes, so I wait that long. UPP feels silky slick immediately, while it takes a few hours for NXT to feel about the same way.

Thanks for the clarification. :up

Does NXT offer Ultraviolet protection like UPP? I assume most new type polymer protectants would provide some UV protection, but I am just trying to confirm this. Thanks.

This is certainly good news! UPP is a good product......... if NXT is even better, that's excellent! Can't wait for some feedback on the durability/lasting shine results!

I have found that UPP lasts extremely longer than NXT. NXT is a great product that creates a great shine for your vehicle, momentarily. Maybe for only a couple of washes. NXT just does not seem to stand up to the harsh winters. The slickness is degraded after a wash, then totally gone after the second. The beading has also disappeared, and the water does not seem to sheet off either. If you are looking for long lasting protection with UV blocking, I would go with UPP. If you want an easy to use, quick awesome shine, that fills in minor swirls, but may only last a month, go with NXT. Do a search on NXT beading, or check out the posts in Scottwax's "Initial NXT review", and you will see others are having the same issues.

waxman, that pretty much summarizes my own experiences with these two products. NXT is easy to use and gives a good shine but has very poor durability while UPP is a little touger to apply but lasts much longer. In fact, there is no comparison at all when it comes to durability. NXT was pretty much dead on my car after 3 weeks and started pooling-up water on my car. This is poorer durability than most of Meguiar's other carnauba waxes as well as other products that aren't known for their durability like Souveran and P21S!

Granted, we had a lot of rain here recently, but anyone living in So Cal knows that "a lot" of rain here amounts no more than a few days.

Two touchless washes pretty much killed my NXT also, so we had three weeks, and two washes and it was pretty well gone. Since the weather has gotten better I re-applied NXT (this time with a cutting pad) and I'll only do QEW's and see if that improves durability.

I may actually re-apply it because it rained the night I did it and Mike said somthing about not letting it get wet for 24 hours.

FWIW, two touchless washes killed Poorboys EX too, but it seemed to last much longer with normal washes. I'll post my results.

I would have to say that

NXT on top of UPP is a great combo, I like a lot how the UPP leave the surface, pretty slick, and much reflective, but after a coat of NXT the color seems deeper and wetter than with UPP, but the slickness is a little bit less, That is what happen with my black Volvo.

I know a lot of you dont believe in layers or NXT but as for me goes it is pretty amazing what the second coat of NXT do. Richer color and even more wet than with the first coat, maybe cause it fills spaces or increase the coat a little bit dont know, but in my Audi after the second coat the car looks very wet and very dark the color (Achat Grey).

My next step is going to be to apply the second coat of NXT to the volvo, I just apply it on the hood cause some marks (courtesy of the body shop after a repair).

First coat of UPP hide everything, but after two washes it came up again, after the first coat on the hood of NXT hide again the marks, but after a couple of washes again pop up the marks, now with the second coat of NXT on the hood, no more marks, right now I have washed the car three times.

About slickness of the product, after one moth and a half in my Audi, you just need a quick detail of the wax spray and everything is back to normal, I love the NXT on top of the UPP or on top of Klasse, and maintain the car with the wax boost is amazing on a daily driver

Hope this helps and please give it a try to the second coat of NXT
