underhood deadening felt

i have a sound deadener under my hood/bonnet thats filthy, its made from some kind of felt stuff thats pretty fragile

ive already tried a some spray on degreaser and a gentle pass with a presure wash , but its still looking bad

any ideas...i wondered if i should just dye it black?

Im not sure what kind of car you have but if its the pad is that bad, just replace it. GM replacements are about $30.00. If you find that your car is much more expensive than you can remove it and spray with APC and pressure wash. I think removing it and pressure washing will be more effective than doing it when its on the car. Dying it may leave it looking blotchy.

Go easy with the pressure washer. I seen one that was all tore up because someone got carried away with the pressure washer.

In good condition ones I use interior cleaner shampoo and vac. In poor condition as others have said its easier just to replace.

They also make an aluminized material that resists heat and keeps your hood paint from oxidizing as easily as replacement .

The best one I know of is made by DEI and withstands up to 1000 degrees and is double sided
