Ultima Tire and Trim Guard Plus, dissapointed

Earlier today I got out a product that I haven't used in a long time and tried out on the exterior black plastic trim pieces on my car, Ultima Tire and Trim Gaurd Plus. I applied it very sparingly on a foam applicator pad, yet no matter how thin I applied this stuff it left streaks in the direction that it was applied. After letting the first application set for 30 mintues, I applied a second thinking that maybe it will give more uniform coverage. Nope, it still streaked. After going for a quick drive, I notcied that this stuff also attracts dust and dirt like crazy on the trim now.

Now I realise why I put this stuff in the unused detailing products box. Does anyone else here experiece the streaking and dust attraction with UTTP? Is there something I am not doing right? I followed the label, but maybe theres a trick to appling it

How do I get this crap off without dulling or damaging the plastic trim? I think I am just going to try using the 1Z Vinyl Rubber Care and Protectant instead, even if it may not be as durable as the UTTP

Not sure if this suggestion helps: But with alot of product application TEMPERATURE is a factor that may need to be considered even if working in a garage (Try apply most products around 50 Degrees or higher) if I'm corrected, also make sure product is at a decent temperature as well, and HAPPY 2012 NEW YEAR.

Weird. I love that stuff.

Was there something else on the trim ? Another wax or sealant or something ?

Is the bottle really old ? And yeah, I could see the temp being an issue.

What's the texture of the plastic trim like ? Really textured, or pretty smooth ?

RedlineIRL-I wouldn't think the age has all that much to do with it as long as it was stored in moderate temperatures. Mine is..oh, I dunno...four or five years old easily, and it still works OK.

How did you prep the surfaces before you applied it?

UTGP has been the best product I have used. For any streaking or excess, try wiping it with a MF towel to remove the "high spots". If that doesn't help, try spritzing some ONR and wiping with a MF towel, and you should be good.

*** Make sure the trim is sufficiently cleaned via APC and/or IPA prior to application.

Temperature was right at 50 when I applied it.

As far as preparing it, I didn't other than apply it after a wash. No greasy residue was visible after washing, so I though nothing should be on it. I have been using 303 prior, but it just basically washes off anyways after some water contact.

The plastic trim it not overly textured, mostly smooth with some visible texture. I don't want to damage or dull the plastic by using an inproper cleaner, so what is a safe dillution ratio to go with? I have some of the green Meguiars APC, so that should be mild enough

Use some Optimum Power Clean 50/50, do a final wipe with alcohol and apply UTTGP. For a car with no garage, expect 6+ months.

RedlineIRL- Yeah, do *something* beyond the regular wash, at least if you've been using something else on the trim. I know 303/etc. seems to wash right off, but I'd still do something like Legacy99 suggested.

I *have* refreshed it without doing that, but I hadn't been using anything else on the surface in question.

Be sure to do a IPA wipe down before applying UTTG.

Thanks, I'll give it another try after using Power Clean prior on the trim and see if there is any improvement in results

Just be a *little* careful that it isn't some surface that IPA might dry out/mess with. I didn't IPA the stuff I've used it on due to worries about that.
