My name is Mike
I was lucky enough to be chosen to receive the Ultima Flawless Finish System Beta Test Kit on the condition that I do a review. So here it is.
The kit consisted of
Ultima Fine Cut & Polish (NEW)
Ultima Final Polish (NEW)
Ultima Paint Sealant (NEW)
(2) Yellow Edgeless Microfiber Towels
Blue Silk Edge Microfiber Towel
6" Ultima Backing Plate
Red Foam Pad
Maroon Foam Pad
Orange Foam Pad.
A coworker (and LEO) courageously volunteered his 2013 Toyota Assault Prius C as the guinea pig. Following stripping, cleaning and "claying", it was clear the Prius had been abused with repeated tunnel washes and trips to Colorado. The swirls (and rock chips) were numerous and deep.
Wanting to use the kit, I started with the Ultima Backing Plate + Orange Pad + Ultima Fine Cut and Polish on my GG6. The BP is well made. The velcro holds pads tightly but still reasonably easy to remove the pad when finished. Bravo, Ultima. It has a firm center and is flexible on the edges. The orange pad (all actually) had a firm back layer and a hole in the center. I believe this is good for the new generation of long throw polishers. UFC&P is a thick, creamsicle colored and has a scent vaguely reminiscent of WD-40 - in a good way. Has a long working time and very easy wipe off. This combo provided moderate cutting power with the GG6. Unfortunately, the scars on the brave Prius needed more. Stepped up to the Griot's BOSS G21 (same pad/polish). Better. Upped it to B&S Cutting MF pad. Not yet. It finally took Megs Cutting MF + Megs M100 (+ Griot's Innerflex pad!!) to cleanly remove all but the deepest. Even had to use the venerable Flex XC3401 on the tight, inner radii of the hood and front fenders.
The yellow MFs surprised me a little. Inside the bag, they felt very light. Out of the bag, they seemed particularly well suited for removing polish. The texture isn't exactly soft but breaks up excess, dried polish easily and did not mar the rather soft paint on this car.
Decided to try Ultima Final Polish + Maroon Pad on the hood as a second step. UFP is purple-gray in color and has a sweeter scent than UFC&P but shares its good qualities. In concert with the maroon pad, it performed the jeweling operation quite nicely.
IPA solution wipe down and steam wash to remove any residue and dust.
Now to the star of the show: Ultima Paint Sealant. Machine applied with Griot's BOSS G10 pneumatic polisher + red pad, it spread easy and far. Waited 30 min and effortlessly wiped off with the blue MF. Added great gloss and slickness. Color me impressed.
FWIW - the blue MF was very soft and reasonably thick.
Here are the afters
And yes, there is a video
Do I like the kit? Absolutely. Each of the products ranges from very good to top notch and, if you need these products, you could do far worse. Highly recommended - even without knowing the cost.
