two questions: minor scratches and turtle wax

Dear friends,

I need to have your comments before taking care of the finish of my car.. hope u can help..

1) There are several minor scratches on the surface of my car. The mechanic of the authorized dealer checked the scratches and said that they were not so deep and did not impose any oxidation risk. In this case, can I safely apply such exterior detailing agents as washers, clays, polishes, glazes, and vaxes without applying a touch up paint? Can the abrasiveness of some of these products lead to a more delicate paint surface which increases the risk of oxidation?

2) I think we, the people living in Istanbul - TURKEY, are not as lucky as you in terms of the availability of detailing products. As far as I learned from that discussion group there is a wide variety of choices out there. But we are simply limited to few brands and I think only one of them is not an alien for you: Turtle wax.

What I'm wondering about is the quality of Turtle Wax products. Has anyone of you had an experience with the products of Turtle Wax? If so, will you please let me know your opinions on these products?

(P.S.: If I want to purchase, say a Pinnacle product, via autosupermart.com using my visa I have to make an additional cargo payment of at least $37 for each order. Frankly speaking I'm reluctant to pay this amount unless my order is worth several hundred bucks.)

Many thanks for all your answers.

Welcome aboard:)

For the time being i'm using Turtle Wax , my order from Megiuars is on it's way.

I find TW not so bad, but you'l learn from this forum that it has little durabillity.Other than that I find it easy to use, and as you will allso learn from this forum, waxing gets under your skin: meaning it becomes an adiction!

Some even use waxing as therapy:bounce

Go for it ,it's a great hobby:xyxthumbs

Turtle wax will do the job, but on this fourm people are looking for something to do the job awesome, apply easy, remove easy, have a deep shine, last a long time etc... We are using products like Turtle wax to the tenth power.

I used to use Turtle wax, like I said, it was a wax that did the job. You will find with other products however every aspect of the product is more enjoyable from application to durability.

I know what your talking about with the shipping charges. If I were you I would just buy two of everything since you don't want to have to re-order when your out of simple stuff like car soap :-)

Get two gallons of car wash

two bottles of polish

33 ounce bottle of klasse (as an example)

gallon of ef high intensity cleaner

3-5 clay bars

gallon of window cleaner

gallon of carpet cleaner

3-4 bottles of tire dressing

Might as well save yourself the shipping charges.......... find some friends that want one or two things and get those too....

Hi Callaway and welcome to the cleaning crew! :)

I'm not familiar with Turtle Wax products so I got on their website www.turtlewax.com and found to my dismay that all of the waxes have cleaners in them. This would be ok for a first step if the paint needs to be cleaned but the problem with cleaner waxes is that you can't layer them for additional protection. I'd suggest poking around the website for awhile. Use the "search" button at the top of the page to look for specific items and check out the archives too. This will give you a good idea of the products you will want to use then when you place and order for delivery you will be able to purchase everything at one time.

Joed has a good idea about splitting the shipping costs with a friend if that is possible for you.

Look forward to your future participation. It is nice to have more international members on board. :xyxthumbs

You could also learn a little about stuff on this fourm and buy one extra bottle of everything and sell it, there MUST be someone who is into cars and wouldn't mind paying for the real deal when it comes to detailing supplies.

Tell them the car wash they use sucks because it strips the wax and stuff, show them you have an extra gallon and you can sell it to them. You could sell them non abrasive wax that will not strip the previous layer of wax and show how it provides a deeper longer lasting shine. Detail your car and sell supplies that you use by showing the great results they will produce.

Looks like you can start a little something if you have some money to put up front and if you know of a small market base that would be willing to purchase high quality detailing products. Sounds like this stuff would be the best stuff on the block where your from and most people are looking to use the best products and then accuire skill, not so much "get good at turtle wax and work thier way up".

Dear all,

Many thanks for your answers of great value..

I think I'd better post some messages in our local forums and try to find a bunch of car enthusiasts who are interested in exterior detailing. This may lead to an unwasteful shopping as you guys stated.

Short Cut, thank you for your apt warning. I'll remember that while wandering around the shelves..

All the best..
