truck or car for business?

Hey guys. I am thinking of doing a little detailing business on the sides. I have a camaro but it is a hatchback and has ALOT of trunk space. I like using it because it shows what kind of work i do. I am thinking of selling it for a small toyota truck since i plan on getting a steamer and other big equipment but i really dont want to. I get comments on the camaro and people goes "how do you get that so shiny!"

i wish i could afford a big truck with nice paint job on some 22's to show what kind of work REALLY can be done but not right now. i am broke.

so how many of you use a car for your business?

I ran my business for almost three years out of the back of a Mustang. Then I ran it for another year out of the trunk of my Integra. Then I moved into a house with a garage and only had to load up on what I needed for a specific job. That was much better. I still opt for loading up a basket of supplies and throwing it in my trunk when I go out on a job, but if I did have a truck I would just make sure it had a cover on it of some sort so nothing flies out or gets dirty. The trunk seems to work fine for me as long as I don't need to keep all my supplies in it all the time. I can't pull a trailer with a car though, so if I ever get really serious about this then I'll need to get the truck.

i'll have to fit a wet/dry vacuum, buckets, mini steamer, etc. inside. im glad i have a v8 under the hood. if i get a truck, i'll need at least a 6 cylinder to haul that stuff around which i dont think i can afford right now.

I'm kind of in the same boat you are in now. I run my business with a Chevy (not Geo) tracker 4door/4wd - same size as a Ford Escape, etc. I definitely want to upgrade to a 4 door (twincab) pickup. Mainly to haul my current equipment and supplies, plus adding on a trailer, but also to help in improving my image and my message, and also for personal use. Alot of the questioning I get is how do I provide mobile auto detailing from a Tracker:grinno: I know that when I have big jobs or a jammed packed day, like today for example, I load up heavy on equipment and supplies which in a Chevy Tracker it may not be that good on gas consumption, brakes, tires, etc. It's a tough little jeep, but with me having a full time mobile auto detailing business and a family with 2 kids....upgrading is not an option.:)

If you canâ€â„¢t afford a change then stick with the car. It seems like an easy choice.

If you are considering a truck consult with your tax advisor because there use to be some great tax incentives for trucks. The IRS allowed for a big lump sum depreciation in the first year of service. However, I am not sure the advantage is available for 2005.

I use both
