Truck bed detail

I did a search and couldn't find much info on this subject.

I am pretty new to the professional detail world and have not yet done a pickup.

Besides an obvious wash, do you detail the bed? Of course, if there is spray-on or plastic liner, it's a mute point. But I own a pickup and have been excluding the bed, as far as polishing and waxing goes. There are too many scratches for me to bother with it.

Would I charge more to polish, glaze, wax the bed? Or is it included with a "truck" price? Is it even expected?:nixweiss If it's a bed like mine (as if there is another kind) those ribbs would be hell. Especialy if the customer wants perfection.

What do other pros do?

Thanks in advance for your advise.:)

I seem to live in pickup truck heaven, and I totally clean the bed, and tailgate jambs, wether it has a bedliner or not. A customer I have had for many years, has me polish and wax his bed every time I detail it. He has NEVER hauled anything in it, and you can pick your teeth in the reflection on the fender wells lol. It is a burgandy f150. Also, alot of the sip in bedliners are easily removed, and you can get all the crud that those liners catch under them.

I do not do the beds of work trucks. I will not wax mine as I really do not want the bed slippery when I am hauling things; which is all the time. I still thoroghly clean it, but not wax it.

However, if the truck is to be used as a show truck only, then you HAVE to do the bed!! Believe me, what a PITA!!!!! But since the bed on a 8' box is so huge, it really stands out when someone first looks at the truck. Therefore, all show and no go = wax!

So, would you charge more to do the bed of a show truck? If a common semi-work truck owner expects me to do the bed, how much would you charge? I don't want to oversell myself or short change myself if someone asks.

I have a Ford F350 Lariot Deisel sitting in the shop overnight... it barely fits in my shop!!!

Remember, I'm the new guy... most of my pickup clients do not expect the bed to receive much attention... the 350 in the shop still has 'stuff' in it...

I always ask: "how about the bed...?"

In my case, I have always heard: "oh, don't worry..."

I would just calculate how long it would take for you to do the bed, and how long it takes to do the exterior of the truck, and use that percentage to calculate the extra charge. For instance, I would charge $150 for a full sized pickup for a full detail, which should take 5 hours or so, and the bed will likely take another 1.5 hours, so I would charge around another $35.

What would you use to detail the bed of a truck? We used armor all on one that had a liner sprayed in it and had the hard bed cover over the top, I don't knot the 'technical name' for it, but it wasn't one of those toppers. It looked really nice (took forever and I hit my head several times being crouched under the thing) and the guy was very impressed. Is there anything else we should be using for this?
