Tried out my new shorter version of the Edge 2K adapter

...Dreaming on an E92....
Aaron was more than kind enough to send me the shorter version of the adapter for rotary polishers. The new adapter looks to be about 1/3rd of an inch shorter, and although it may not seem like a big change, the difference is there. I did some cutting on my Blazer with the black wool pad and Optimum Hyper Compound, followed by the WW Blue pad and Optimum polish. With the pad being closer to the buffer there is a significant difference in control, especially when using the edge of the pad or fitting into tight areas. The pad stays where you put it too, no more hopping over the surface ( I rarely encountered this before, but it seems to have been eliminated all together).

I'm very pleased with the new adapter, it makes my dedication to Edge products even stronger! :bigups

I just got my replacement a couple weeks ago as well, and I agree completely. It makes a huge difference in vibration and controllability. Kudos to Aaron and the Edge team for continuously improving their product!! :)

wifehatescar: Yep, they've got both out now. I have a PC, yet rarely use it so I only use the Edge pads on my rotary

Maxima: I don't think they're for sale just yet, I think Aaron and Sal (?) wanted to get everyones thoughts before they put the new adapter on the market, I'd say now is as good of a time as any!

There is a shorter version of the rotary adapter which will be available within a month as a rolling changeover. This does not replace the standard size adapters that are out in the market. The standard size has no issues and we are not offering an exchange program like we did for the DA adapters. In our never ending mission to perfect and improve our product lines we found that bringing the adapter closer to the machine had an overall improvment in feel and reduced the chance of the operator turning the buffing on a high angle which we believe creates swirls. This shoter version puts the pad at the same height and distance that a backing plate does. Just a note, the new adapters came out of a need when buffing marble sinks, to fit the machine with a pad attached into the bowl. The shorter version was needed for that tight space. Once we finished the design and tested it, we felt that this new version was NEW AND IMPROVED and we would discontinue the longer size. The shorter versions will be in stock at Dedication To Detail by the end of the month and begin shipping shortly after so most vendors will not have stock for a month or so. Again, there is nothing wrong with the standard size adapters and we will not be offering the same adapter exchange program on the rotary adapters that we did on the DA's.

Maybe I missed it, but why was there an exchange program with the DA's?

The Edge2000 system was designed around the rotary buffer and so was the original Edge2000 adapter. Many people began adapting their rotary adapters for the DA machine by screwing in a 5/16 to 5/8 adapter. We were asked also to make this product and we responded. However, we did not anticipate the forces that the DA machine exterts on the adapter and pads as opposed to the rotary and there were some problems with both pads and adapters. We then made new versions of the pads and adapters and then did a full redesign of the DA adapter to engineer it specifically for the DA and Porter Cable like machines. We felt that to eliminate any problems in the field with people using older versions we would offer the exchange program for the DA adapters. The rotary adapters have never had any problems as they were designed for the rotary machines. As stated before we now have slighly improved the rotary adapters, but there is nothing wrong with the standard initial version.

I understand now. Thank you for explaining it. I can't wait until I make my order!
