tree sap?

I notice at times when a vehicle is parked under a tree overnite there seems to be something on the winshield that looks like tiny little clear dots. Is this sap that is released from the leaves? I know that pine trees forsure do this, but maybe I shouldn't be parking under regular trees?

Parking under large trees can result in unwanted deposits of a sticky substance on the car. Most people assume this is tree sap, but the real culprit is far more likely to be insect honeydew, excreted by aphids or scale insects that infest the leaves and branches.

Composed of sugars and other waste products that pass undigested through the insects' bodies, honeydew becomes harder to remove the longer it's left on the car.

If you remove the honeydew and park under the tree again, you'll just end up with more sticky stuff dripping down on your vehicle.

John it doesnt matter what it is, but consider the alternatives. Personally , i would rather remove the light deposits, than park it in the sun, but then you have to deal with bird crap, so 6 of one, 1/2 dozen of another.....(I park under the trees.....)

I suffer the same problems where i live, we have huge pine trees, that drop pollen, sap, and big green pine cones, and blossomed pine cones. We have sycamores also, they excrete some sort of sap, could be a described above, although i havent seen any real significant insect population, so i deter my belief to sap excretions.

For some reason i prefer sap to U.V.'s.

If these spots all come off with a simple wash (or maybe even just a rinse if done soon enough) then yes, it's this "honeydew" that HRP mentioned.

That happened to me once and I freaked out before discovering the truth. :p
