There are a ton of threads on tree sap removal. After trying a few without success, however, I turn to the guru's of Autopia.
While playing some beer league softball, I parked near some trees that threw off a mist-like sap. In the light, it looks just like small beads of water on the hood, windshield, etc.--the reflection of the sun illuminates them the same. They have been on the ride for less than one week. I would have tried to remove them sooner, but I thought they were little drops of water. On cloudy days this week, they were not visible. After two unsuccessful Meguiars QD's and wipes with MFs, I realized they were more than dirty water stains.
I first tried Goo-Gone because, in the past, it has removed stubborn sap. No go.
I then hopped on here and read that WD-40 works well. I sprayed some in a cup, and using a Q-tip, dripped WD-40 onto the drops. I let it sit for a few minutes, then lightly rubbed with a MF. Spot washed and rinsed, but nothing. I tried this a few more times, all without any removal.
I've read that methyd hydrate will work. Unfortunately, I have neither MH or IPA here. I'll have to pick some up tomorrow if the local hardware store is open.
My question is--if not MH, then what? Can I have at it with a PC and some light to medium abrasiveness polish? I'm not opposed to buffing out the ride, but would like to avoid it. It's a last-ditch option, though.
By the way, the ride is an '04 Sport Trac, black, with a nearly flawless finish. Thus, this bothers me greatly. :hairpull
Thanks folks.
