Towels

Okay, everyone says the waffle weave is the best to dry a car according to the poll I started: http://www.detailcity.org/forums/de...ssion-misc/21105-waffle-weave-microfiber.html. Two questions:

1. Does it matter on the brand of the waffle weave? Because like I said on top of the tread, I bought one on eBay. I don't know who it's made by.
2. What do you guys recommend to drying windows? I have tried to use my waffle weave to dry the windows, and all it does is streak the windows. So, I go back over them with a bath towel.

1. I can't comment on specific brands, but like all products, some are good, some not so good.

2. I am presently using cheap waffle weave MFs that I purchased in the housewares section at Wal*Mart for windows with good results.
The streaking could be several things.
(a) The glass cleaning product is one, but the fact that you don't have streaks with a bath towel probably eliminates that.
(b) If you didn't wash the WW before you first used it, you may have some mfg. residue in the towel that causes the streaks.
(c) If you have used the WW with a wax or QD, the residue from that could cause the same problem.
(d) The eBay towel may not absorb moisture as well as it needs to. That becomes a quality issue.

The type of towel used doesn't make much if any difference in cleaning windows for me. WW, regular or cotton terry all work fine.
Some sort of residue in the towel would seem like the most likely problem to me.

It looks like Charles covered everything but brand, I'll suggest the guzzler ww from autogeek, ww from detailcity.com, Poorboy's ww, and Meguairs ww towels. I haven't used the guzzler, but a lot of people from this site suggest it. I've used the other three brands and have been happy with all of them. As for glass towels, I've been using mf towels specifically made for glass(from dc.com) and love them. They clean very well and leave no streaks at all.

Second on that. I don't think brand plays as big a part as some would like to hink it does. I have some cheap MF's that I have gathered from different places, and they all perform well. I do think that some of the nicer MF I have (which are the more expensive ones) have some nicer "finishing touches" and they may hold up a little better over the long run - and FWIW, that's not really a factor for me, as I am not using them on a daily basis.

Well, obviously I sell microfiber towels so you could say I have some bias on this matter, but I'm going to give you my opinions strictly as a detailer who has recently switched from using the cheap microfiber to the more expensive ones for doing windows.

I like to use one (sometimes two) window MF for each car I detail so using the cheap ones from Sam's or an equivalent seemed like a smart choice. Now that I am closing our store, I decided to use some of the nicer MF on my windows and it has eliminated any of the issues I have had with my MF not working as well as they should. They are beefier which gives them more absorbancy and that feature alone makes them a better choice for getting the windows clean IMO.

Troy:
To take it a step further, what MF towels are you using?
The window specific glass towel?
The regular MF towel?
The super plush towel?
A waffle weave towel? (I don't see any WW towels listed on the DC Store site.)

Charles

As far as the "all inclusive" part, while I have not had any bad experiences with any MF towels, I will say that the high end mega plush ones are certainly nice to use. Use them for QDing or wax removal and you will be spoiled very quickly.
I don't know if I could use them if I were a pro detailer because I would hesitate to use them on the dirty jobs. That's what all my old cotton terry towels are used for.

Charles

Edit: Troy, you edited your post after I was replying to it. At least you will know what I'm referring to with my "all inclusive" comment. :)

.....The ones made in Korea are by far the best I have seen......
I just went to the Special Value section on DetailCity.com and saw the Prestige Polishing Cloth 24 Pack on sale for $59.99. That's a price that I couldn't resist for high quality MF's!

I hate to see you going out of business, but for any members looking for some good MF's you should take a look at these.

All microfiber are not created equal.. for this product you will get what you pay for in most cases.

Glass specific towels are best, but most quality towels like Troy said will also do the job.
Waffle weaves can be used on glass, but they are not the best for that use :notme::inspector:
