Touch Up Painting

Hello all. I am looking to have my SUV Detailed, buffed, and waxed. Basically to remove the imperfections and scratches. I have some deep scratches that I know will need some touch up paint. Should touch up painting be done before or after?

I would use touch up paint before detailing. Once they detail it the touch up paint will blend into the paint and it will look a lot better.

So the detailing wouldnt remove some of the touch up paint? How long would I need to wait after doing the touch up before having the car buffed out?

most shops, and most pros who do touch up all day long for dealers like to do it to freshly detailed vehicles. for obvious reasons, because 1) the paint is very clean so you get good adhesion and its also much easier to see what you are working with since the surface is clean and any marks that can be polished or removed will have already been done so 2) using a machine polisher, clay, or other deep cleaning/decontaminating products can and often do remove or at least damage the fresh touch up paint. we always do touch up very last.

IME there are pros and cons to both approaches. You *do* want to work with clean paint when doing touchups though.

Do you plan to level the touchup and if so how?
