So a buddy of mine from work brought a new frontier to have a touch up on a scratch done. I filled the scratch with paint and allowed it to dry, wet sanded lightly with 1500 to bring the edges down and smooth, hardly any pressure. When I dried it off there was a section under the clear that had noticeably darkened. At first I thought it was just a smudge, but when I took my pc7424xp and meguiar's 105 and orange pad, it's not coming off, yet shined like a new penny. I'm stumped as to how the base coat got dark even though I didn't burn or sand through the clear? Suggestions? It's a white truck and the paint under the clear was turning grey, no transferred base coat on pad or microfibers...

No paint transfer on pads so I doubt it is SS. He already left and I didn't snap a pic. I referred him to my paint guy.

Unfortunately, I would have to agree with Dan. I would never wet sand without a Paint Thickness Gauge to see what you are starting with and what you are removing.
