watch the video. There is a lube shop in there that was blown half down. That is the lube shop I hang out at and advertise in. I also know the owners personally.

On one side of the shop, across the street, is a metal building, which has a tint shop and a motorcycle shop. Then on the other side is a vacant metal building. With the Lube shop in the middle.

The distance between the 2 metal buildings is a little over 100 yards, give or take. Again, with the lube shop in the middle of both. It took an enclosed trailer, from the motorcycle shop, and threw it into the vacant building. Long way to throw a trailer....

[vacant building]......[Lube Shop]......[Cycle Shop]

Also had bad flooding. couple of people missing, and a few passed away, unfortunatly a couple of children as well. Goes to show that trying to pass high water over the road can be dangerous....deadly

I'm sorry that your town got hit by a tornado, but I'm thankful you weren't there for it. Was there any damage to any of your property or neighborhood?

Wow, it must be scary to have the threat of those things...without any warning. At least we have a couple of days warning for hurricanes here...

Chris

I was thinking about you, the other night I was listening to the news and they talked about your town and the floods....I went HEY! that's Chris's town! It shows you how much of a family we are here

Hope that things are OK out that way

It's good that you were not there for the excitement.
We have spent a few hours in the basement over the years.
Ankeny-area historical tornado activity is slightly above Iowa state average. It is 125% greater than the overall U.S. average.

On 6/18/1974, a category 4 (max. wind speeds 207-260 mph) tornado 1.1 miles away from the Ankeny city center killed 2 people and injured 50 people and caused between $5,000,000 and $50,000,000 in damages.

On 9/28/1986, a category 4 tornado 1.6 miles away from the city center caused between $500,000 and $5,000,000 in damages.
Those two were our two major ones. The ones that only have 100 to 150 mph winds we kind of ignore. We still go to the basement, though. :D
The one in 1974 took 3 cars, 2 motorcycles, a double garage and the west end of our house. We were in the basement at the time. When I came upstairs, I felt pretty sorry for myself until I looked across the street and the house that had been there 10 minutes earlier was completely gone. I quit feeling sorry for myself very quickly. :)
