Top of the Line's Clay

Top of the line sells an 8oz clay bar for 17.95 (about average) but it says that you can use it about 20 times before discarding it. Can that be right? Maybe they mean it can hold contaminants from up to 20 cars but it would still only be safe to use on about 3? Here's a link:

If it's true it seems like an awesome deal. Just wondering if anyone has used it before. Otherwise, I think I'll order the mothers clay bar economy size from waxstation. (3) 80 gram bars for $20.93. Here's that link:

Any thoughts?

actually the 8 oz bar is a better deal

8 oz = 220grams / 18.00 = $2.25 / oz

3 - 80gram bars = 240grams (8.5oz) / 21.00 = 2.50 / oz

not much difference but you could always cut the bigger bar into smaller pieces

Always take ad copy with a grain of salt. ANY clay is only good until it's contaminated. The contaminants can cause marring if they work their way back to the paint, so many of us don't knead clay, we cut it into small pieces, use 'em and pitch 'em. That sorta takes the "number of uses" factor out of the equation. So don't go by advertising claims when choosing clay. Instead, consider attributes you can really evaluate:

Is it soft/mild enough that it won't mar your finish?

Since different clays behave differently, is it a clay that you enjoy using the way YOU use clay?

Are the purchase considerations such as cost (including shipping), availability, etc., OK with you?

Elortt - good thing you knew the math b/c i didn't know how many grams were in an ounce! I see that now though.

Accumulator - you have some good points to take into consideration. I think I'm gonna cut the bar in pieces like you said.

I think I'll go with the mothers and if I don't like it I'll try elsewhere. Thanks.
