Holy crap!! Those are awesome! I never would have guessed you could get that kind of detail in pictures from a camera. I would have guessed it was a telescope.

Great shots....very detailed ....glad you shared them....astrophotography is very cool...

First shot is with a Canon 70-200 2.8L

Second is with a Canon 400mm 2.8L

Third is the Canon 400mm 2.8L with a 2x extender (800mm)

Outstanding pics! Post a pic of the camera itself and the lens you used. I have no idea what the numbers mean, but I know I have a new desktop background.

EDIT: Nevermind, I did a search and holy crap are you using some expensive gear. No wonder they came out so good, that's serious equipment.

What were the settings you used to take the pics? They look amazing and wouldn't mind a few pointers. Nightshots are kinda dificult to get right.

Thanks.

Night shots are hard, but if your shooting the moon, it's just like shooting during the day. It's that bright. In the 400 and 800mm shots I was actually at ISO400 (I noticed that afterwards, I could have been lower). F was 5.6 and shutter 1/800". I'm not an expert at shooting the sky or anything, was just playing around with different settings. (Doh, that ISO400 is annoying me now. Should have went lower. Oh well, next month I'll try again ;) )

Very cool pictures :up

My father has two very nice and expensive telescopes (Celestron and Meade) that he was able to purchase from a grant he got from his school. I know he was able to hook up his hold Pentax slr body to it, I know need to get an adapter for my camera. The pictures we're similiar to yours in that they looked like they we're straight out of a science book!

I'm just curious what other "L" lenses do you own? The 400mm f/2.8L is a SERIOUS lens.

It's a great lens. Pain in the butt to carry around though (mainly use it for baseball and soccer). I use my 70-200 2.8l for pretty much everything else (sport and nonsport)
