Too much lube for claying

Some people swear by using just water for claying, so they can get the right "bite"; I like to use car wash, others wouldn't touch clay-to-car without a dedicated lube. You just have to experiment and see what works for you.

Unless you're dealing with a highly contaminated car, you really want a fair bit of lube. Unless you're going crazy, I think you're fine.

If I need to clay the entire car, i do it after my final rinse while the car has more then adequate water remaining in its surface. I may add a spritz or two of QD while in the process. Im fine with using just water.

If Im spot claying, I often use a QD.

I dont know if one could "over saturate" with a QD. I know of some QD's which are a little too slick though unless diluted further, like FK 425, Opt IDGE to name a couple. You dont need a whole lot of slickness when claying, you just need a little slip release.

I clay as I wash using ONR.

-Fill bucket full of water and ONR (not to hot to put your hands into).

-Throw the clay in there to soften up.

-Wash panel with ONR

-Clay

-Throw clay back in the wash bucket

-Dry

-Move on to next panel

Great idea ... have you have any issues with this process?

Its not my idea, well maybe using the hot water to soften up the clay and make it easier to work with and tackier, but 99.9% of the credit goes to Scottwax. It seems to work very well and saves a lot of time. Oh, and you do need some sort of grit guard in the bottom so the clay doesn't sit on dirt in the wash bucket.

I wouldnt recommend this. Using NRWS, obviously an asset, however your incorporating your debris into your claying process, correct?

Funny, Ive admonished :argue this process before somewhere on here......

I certainly wouldn't do it with a filthy car, but a maintained or rinsed one? Sure. My (white) drying towels always look pristine after an ONR wash, my wash media looks like hell though. We could get into how most marring really occurs, but I'll save that for another post. I'll just make you cringe by saying I do it all with one bucket.

Clayed after a rinse, or QD'd after dried are your best options.

Theres no way Im using a clay unless the car has been wiped clean or rinsed clean.......

Yakky, besides the clay in the bucket, I do exactly this. However, I was wondering if the pools of ONR is too much water, decreasing the clay ability to grab the contaminants. I am aways "splashing" water as I clay.

Maybe a cup with hot water to hold the clay would be better for the people who are scared of ONR bucket debri.

As long as your clay is pickign stuff up, its working fine, right? I don't notice any difference with more ONR vs traditional QD/lube. The warmer the clay, the tackier it is, and I notice it picks stuff up much better.
