Todd Helme, Black Fire

Detailing Gnosis
With the demise of PAC, Palm Beach Motoring Group has purchased the mfg rights to Black Fire line and hired Tood to work with the place formerly known as Detail City (so no argument about the name).

It is not clear if there will be an owner of TID announced or just silently go away but Jack had hinted people have come forward.

Change is in the air.

[Palm Beach Motoring Group has acquired all rights to Blackfire USA. Todd Helme has accepted the position of Director of Development for Black Fire USA, Autopia-CareCare.com and AutopiaForum.com with the Palm Beach Motoring Group. He will bring years of personal and hands on experience to the store, forum and Blackfire line.] Autogeek

BFWD is a good product, the rest of the BF line is just like alot of other boutique detailing products sold by AG, all rebadged stuff made from the same pot. I like Todd and wish him the best. I have no hate toward AG, they have good prices, offer a lot of brands and shipping is quick. I found better stuff than their brands though. And I doubt the Detail City forum will be allowed to be as tolerant as TID was toward other brands like Chemical Guys.

This is great news for the Blackfire line and Todd, congrats. Its also a great time to bury the autopia-clone forums. Frankly, I feel embarrassed for whoever is running that. Its as tacky as a fake Rolex watch.

Exactly my point too and is the reason why I walked from the DC forum and wll never return. Besides kicking Poorboys off the forum, this makes Todd the 5th leader of the forum in just a short time. Talk about murdering what was once a good forum.

They dropped the sponsor concept and having a sponsor only thread where they could delete posts, etc. This is exactly what Autopia.org did during the switch from a DavidB forum to 3D owned.

I am not saying I liked some of the changes and how they were handled but Steve (PB) decided to stop posting. He has Pockets doing the posting now. He should post given he is a business man he should continue to post to help his business.

It seems like every time a forum evolves (ownership, moderation style) people leave for new "homes" and sometimes start new forums. Detailer's Club was one such forum that later died.

I just wonder if some BF users will like BF less because PBMG owns.

I am a BF user and will continue to purchase the products no matter who the seller is.The product speaks for itself. I hated to see PAC go under but life is sometimes tough and we still soldier on. Glad to see Todd land a new gig and hope the rest of the gang can soon do the same.

Its a serious shame communities where straight up information was once shared before everyone became a commercialization are now being simply bought and changed into what a marketing "insight" sees as successful.

Everyone wants to suffocate and have 20 hands in 20 cookie jars, and unfortunately the community(the people who really benefit from the info everyone shares) is who suffers. I can't even begin to estimate how many times I have read people buying a product on a person's (perhaps shill-worthy) recommendation only to be disappointed..

Things that some people are mentioning, are the reasons I left, then came back, then left AGAIN, and am now back..

..also interesting to note that certain situations require 'the right person' to talk about or use before a product gets any sort of forum "play". BFWD was "meh no thanks" to many people years ago and all of a sudden a ridiculous resurgence of it being touted as "ze best" in many arsenals... Its still the same immiscible oily sealant with a pretty good look, just different mouths speaking about it.

All these forums back in early 00's went from being everyone trying to improve and help everyone else, to literal storefronts and "affiliated" information regurgitation(which only affects those who rely on "help" to decide on a product) from actual, factual, applied experience.

Which frankly would be a very petty attitude. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't judge products based on who makes them/owns them, I judge them on how they perform.

That said, I've never touched a Blackfire product (in fact I rarely ever use "boutique" type products) so I can't say whether they perform or not. If they don't, then I'd say the people who touted them simply because they were made by PAC are just as bad as those who would dump on them because they're now made by PBMG.

All of this drama-queen crap is just so pointless it's ridiculous.

Very true. I don't care for Sal's holier than thou attitude and mis-informative website, but I still buy his stuff.

Congradulations with the promotion Todd. Many should know that you were responsible for rebuilding and freshening up the Blackfire line and this new change will only allow you to tweek it even more. I wish you the best of luck as you seem to have quite a bit on your plate moving forward. Don't forget that you jump-started your detailing career on Autopia.org and it's your home away from home so please don't make yourself a stranger. I'm also happy to know that AG will finally have an experienced Pro posting on the Corvette Forum. :grinno:

I wonder if the AG morons that post on AGO will start back-peddling on the trashing they've been doing on BF products (having likely never even used them)

Where the hell are you getting this from? I post on AGO and since I've been there NO ONE has posted anything but positive views on BF products, the only issue is that AGO isn't as relaxed as Autopia on rules about posting items that THEY do not sell.

So *** is your statement based on?

I've seen a few posts complaining about its dusting and that the AG products are better.

I've seen the post about dusting but in the end everyone was always positive about it. The only issue was that you couldn't really review it or push it since it was a product that AG did not sell.

But I've never seen anyone on the forums bash the product.

I agree with this statement 100%

With detailing advice you should always consider its source; commercialism brings with it concerns of honesty and true representation. In other words, it’s difficult to know what is true when someone is motivated by income, i.e. directly targeted at product sales, more so than an unbiased opinion. Marketing often has little if anything to do with the truth

It was at least a year ago. I stopped using the forum. There were some AG employees that posted a lot and on in particular (I don't remember his screenname) bashed anything not sold by AG and always recommended something else. I didn't mind the latter, but he said some dumb stuff about BF that made me think he never even tried it. The TID forum was amazingly nonbiased in contrast. I much preferred it.

You sure do know a lot about boutique products for someone that rarely uses them.
