Todays Detail, Black Burban

The owner would not commit to my price given, so I gave them what they paid for:

Trucks like these are very time consuming.......now add black. The original caller wanted a detailing estimate, so I gave her my starting fee schedule. She then called back and wanted to know when I was available. Well, I had purposely left today open to take some time off, but I guess i was feeling optimistic today. So I took it, and asked for some additional details, "It's a SUV" she said....so much for my optimisim. "What color is it?" I asked. "Black", she said. First a jab, now an upper cut? Can I ever get anything easy?

So I arrive as scheduled, the owner is removing some last minute personal belongings. I introduce myself, and go on to explain the original estimate was for a "car". SUV's are 20% additional due to size. I told her if she needed some time to discouss it with her boss (the owner) and think about it, that was fine, or if she/he had a change of heart, thats ok also. Clients are less apt to change there mind in your presence. I told her to let me know in a few minutes if she wanted to.

Long story short, she called for her boss. She apparently (according to her boss) quoted him less then I quoted her. She asked if I could do the whole SUV for the original quote, I told her I would do only what they were willing to pay for.

Total time, 6 hrs, and it was warm today, no shade, forgot my camera (Cam phone for the b4's), forgot water, and hadnt really prepared myself for a detail today. I had one peice of toast, and a cup a jo in the a.m., before the call. No water hook up, no electricity. So I had to go to my pals, and borrow his generator. Lots of hard work today!

Process:

NRWS with 1/2 gal adjustable mister/sprayer.

Orange pad/PC

einszett Metallic Polish

Charliesoap interior

FS UTG for tires

Freedom Original for wheels

One Grand ERV for trim

Before (Lousy shot though)

Sounds like a tough day.

SUV looks great! I really don't like doing SUV details, especially on ones that large...and black at that. Nice work.

Ouch! Been there, done that many times.

It turned out really nice, excellent results for only 6 hours on that beast. :)

I think Im going to tackle a blue tahoe soon. I'm scared of it. haha. But man that looks great. What was the owners reaction!?

Did 3 hours in the heat with no shade yesterday in the black leather bowels of a Nastygator yesterday. I can totally appreciate your work here!

You get your package Pat?

Nice work Pat....Your six hours of works shows. I am sure they were very happy they committed to you.:2thumbs:

Yuck, another black vehicle and yet it's a SUV! Well, you did really well for the circumstances that were given. Hopefully you'll have better luck with clients in the summer Pat.

Well, they actual owner was not the most appreciative of clients. I mean he tipped me, but it was just one of those clients that doesnt appreciate hard work, nor was he privied as to what it actually takes to properly detail a car. He kept saying "nice, looks great".....He was kind of rushed, probably spent a whole 60 seconds reviewing my task. He was just after a clean car, not really casting an eye on swirl removal, or touch, or attention to trim work.

I more then likely could have washed it, hit it with some Freedom Original, washed wheels, treated tires and wiped dowm windows and interior and gotten away with it.

You get your package Pat?

I havent checked mail for a few days amigo! Ill check today. Thanks beforehand if its there!

Thanks Pat, I hope so, I do expect some referrals from the place of employment. I did get several "You really turned that beast around" comments from workers there yesterday.....And handed out a few cards. I just wish there was a source of water and shade!! It was friggin hot yesterday! I had to call my son to bring me some Gatorade and water to bail me out. I think had he not, I would have gotten some heat exhaustion.

looks like they made the right choice giving you the work. That SUV looks new
If you had a close up, you would think otherwise! But thanks. It really needs about $350.00 and another 6 hrs worth of time though. Needs a good swirl removal step, and finishing step. It also had tar splatter on the rear right QP, & gum on rear hatch. Pretty heavy I might add, I spent a good 1/2 hr trying to get it off, but I was running low on time. Even with Tarminator and 3M adhesive remover, it wasnt budging very easy. Thank you though!

Im having a run on black cars, I should have known. As soon as it starts to heat up, they start calling. That was a tough 6 hrs Scott!

I really don't like doing SUV details

Im with ya!! And guess whats next? LOL A white Yukon! With kids and a dog! That means beige interior (usually).

you might wanna consider sending in

the monkey to do your negotiating.

Yes, as he was on my back all day.............
