To Jewel a GM

Hello,

Well onto car 2 of 3. The first car I did this past week was a hot mess for lack of a better expression. Swirls, deep scratches, holograms, acid etching, you name it. Had to do that unpopular thing no one wants to talk about,... just no way around it. Followed it up with M105 and 205 which was a knock out punch. We are talking 95% correction, crazy gloss, and an LSP ready finish. So for the price paid, I Collinite 845'd the thing and sent it out the door. The owner was kissing my feet.

Now the problem. Car 2 of 3 is an immaculately kept corvette. Car really doesn't need much and I need to justify detailing it. Swirls are minimal, gloss is already high... I am figuring a one step polish with maybe M205, Megs Swirl Free Polish, or SIP on a Lake Country White... I think the difference here is going to lie in jeweling the finish. This is not a strong point for me and I am not afraid to admit it. I usually go for a 99% perfect finish and rely on my LSP to raise the steaks. Not today.... So help me out guys... I have a nice arsenal.. but my softest pad is an LC Grey. I have no problem ordering anything EXCEPT car needs to be done on Friday morning.

To give you an idea of what I have... Megs Swirl Free Polish, SIP, 106FF, 4Star SMR, ZPC, and as of Friday Optimum Final Finishing Polish. Please remember GM clear is hard. What are your thoughts?

I would polish with 106 and step up to SIP if needed. I would jewel with 85rd and a blue pad with a rotary.

I don't have the 85rd.. I was going to order it last week and was told it is no different than 106FF... other than that it has a slightly less cut.

I read up on the Blue CCS vs Grey CCS... neither cut, what's the difference?

I say just do white/106 or white/sip if you have to and call it a day. Anymore and, 2weeks from now, you'll never be able to tell the difference.

106FF has a cut of 2.5 and 85RD has a cut of 1.5...not a whole lot, but enough. Not much difference between the gray and blue, but I use 3m blue pads with 85rd works like a charm.

True, I feel the same way. Alot of extra work for not really a noticeable improvement; especially to someone who knows nothing about cars. I will post pictures later this week though and you will see why I am considering it. The car is in pretty nice shape already. I am going to have to pull all the stops out to make it noticeably different.

I wonder what the cut on that Optimum final finish I bought is?

I haven't tried 3m Pads... I use lake country. I am going to order a blue pad just for kicks next time.
