Tires dressing and brake squeal?

I've been a mobile detailer for 15 years today was first I ran into this. Customer of mine mentioned today that she took her car in to have brakes checked. She had some noise and thought they were worn. Brakes were fine and only thing mechanic could find was some of the tire dressing on the brakes. I apply dressing with a brush so at first was confused on how it would have got there. Sometimes though I spray in the fenderwells but not sure if that would do it. Sometimes I do spray the tires and can't remember if I did this last time. Curious if anyone has heard of dressing doing this. Dressing I use is a water based.

well even if you did get it on the brakes, it would wear off after a few times of applying the brake. interesting, never heard of it before.

I haven't heard of this either. Dust sometimes will get into the brakes and cause them to squeek, this is fixed buy using an airhose to blow out the dust. New breaks will do this too depending on the pads and some pads just squeek all the time..

Exactly!

I don't think the dressing was to blame there. If anything the dressing would have acted like a lubricant. How many times do you hear someone talking about brakes making noise because of tire dressing? You don't, the mechanic probably told the lady that to make her happy cause he couldn't find anything wrong.

Very unlikley that this was the cause of her squeal. Most likley it was the pads themselves that were the problem. Some pads simply make noise. Also the way people use there brake has a lot to do with it.

It would seem the dressing would burn off the first time the brakes were applied. It would have to be something else like brake dust, even water would make brakes squeek it would be interesting to know what it could be....

Maybe the mechanic just did a break job and didn't want to deal with it, or know how and gave her laime(sp) story..
