Tire foam and overspray help

I've got mud tires on the truck so they have thick lugs on them.

I spray the tire and inbetween the lugs to make it look nice, BUT how can I keep the overspray off the truck so I don't have to go QD it just after I washed it?

What does everyone do for large truck tires/mud tires?

I also have an SUV with mud tires. I personally dislike spray foam. I have polished wheels and find that any overspray onto the wheels dulls them quickly.

I always use tire gel and an applicator. The lugs take some time, but less time than going back to QD wheels with overspray and tires.

thats a loooonnnng time to buff a 33" tire with big mud lugs

A lot of things take a substantial amount of time to do properly. I guess it's all dependent on how serious you are about having the best results.

I agree that you need to use a gel or liquid, which will prevent any overspray. Then either allow the product to dry for at least an hour, or wipe down the tire before driving. I've found that another benefit of wiping excess gel off of the tire, is that it will stay much cleaner, longer, and thus look better for a longer period of time as well.

I prefer to use 303 or Natural Look on truck tires, because they are so quick and easy to apply. Plus, large tires often produce a glossier look with any given product than would be seen on a lower profile tire, so low-gloss products like 303 are a good choice IMO.

You can use an applicator cloth along with the spray foam. Instead of spraying the tire, just spray the foam onto the cloth and then apply it to the tire. You can use this process with all tires. Of course, it takes a lot more time on larger tires, but the end result is no overspray.

With larger tires, try to apply the foam going in one direction first. Then load up the cloth with more foam and go in the other direction. By doing this you will have a better chance of reaching all of the inbetween areas more quickly.
