Tip on removing brake dust

Call me stupid, but I used an kneaded eraser to remove some of the stubborn brake dust on my wheels. Just put a bit of water or rim cleaner on the eraser and scrubbed where the brake dust and stains were and it cleared it up pretty well. You can buy a kneaded eraser at any art store and its cheap ($1).

Eh...hardly the first time we've been on an art store clay safari...last time was some chewing gum stuff you use to stick posters to walls. I just use chewing gum for that, personally.

Hey, I was responding to the post before mine, not you, adam, I think all of us look for a clay alternative, even the big guys with the Elastron sponge (I think that's the name  ).

Stupid. :woot:

The magic eraser or any equivalent will remove brake dust pretty well, but be careful with its use. If you hit a clear-coated area on your rims, you will mar them slightly, as they are slightly abrasive. It might not be apparent right away, but my buddy who has an S2000 used them over last summer and they definitely did some damage to his rims.

You woudn't use a magic eraser on your clear coated paint job, so you probably shouldn't on clear coated wheels, right? :)

That chewing gun stuff...refering to Blue Tack?

I'm feeling a bit silly now but.....

I got FIMO it is described as a polymer clay.

Fimo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I did buy some just for testing. The FIMO soft seems oily but the consistency is right. I kneaded some OP in it which made it a bit more (too) soft. My test panel is from a sunbird (Don't know if it is original SS or has been so neglected that the CC is all gone.) It did get some contamination and paint.

The next experiment is FIMO original stiffer stuff. Probably with the OP kneaded into the clay I'll get the right consistency.

It's no joke. :hide:
