Time to use my new Griot's Polisher

My Griot's polisher, pads and Opt-Seal have all arrived. Now it's time to put them to work on our 2007 Mazda3. :buffing: Looks like Friday night is all booked up!

I plan on washing with ONR, claying then using DG105 topped with Opti-Seal. I may document this whole process for my blog, BikeBeerBBQ, to show people how easy it is to properly take care of a car. I'm looking forward to using the polisher and seeing the results.

Wish me luck!

Congrats on the purchase! She's has lots of power, just don't drop it. ;)

I enjoy my Griots RO. First thing I did was ditch the pads & backing plate though--I'm a fan of the 5.5" Ubers. Second thing I did was switch to M105/205. Couldn't be happier.

Well, I spent the weekend giving our 2007 Mazda3 a full detail. I washed with ONR, clayed (which pulled lot of crap off the surface), applied the DG105 with the Griot's then topped everything off with the Opti-Seal.

The polisher was super easy to use and did a great job. The paint surface was in decent shape to begin with so I didn't need to do a lot to it. I did find some minor swirl marks, but they were very hard to see on the light silver surface. From what I can tell the machine took them out with ease. The surface now has a depth of shine that is very nice. The Opti-Seal went on very easily and it is amazing how little of the product is needed. My 8oz bottle will last a long time.

I'm very happy with the results and can't wait to use the machine on our Jetta.

You should get about 40 or more applications with that bottle. I love Opt-Seal for that reason and its durability. I use mine with the yellow foam from Megs. and 205, but have not had good luck with removing spider webs and some other marring unless using my Makita. Maybe I need a better pad combination with 105 and the Griots to make it "tougher"?

Other than that, yes, it's a very smooth machine. I do, and recommend, headphones during use. My ears ring after years of drums so now it's all about protecting what hearing I have left.

Yeah, I think I'll have this bottle of Opti-Seal for 3-4 years at my usage rate. Not bad for $24!

Our Mazda had "very minor" swirl marks (that I could see). So what little was there seems to have gone away with the DG105 and the Griot's Orange pad.

I do wear ear protection for virtually any machine I use (lawnmower, weed whacker, and RO Polisher). It definitely makes a huge difference in the long-term.

ruleof72- Glad to hear everything turned out so well!

Note that the Jetta will almost certainly have much harder clear, so you might find you need a slightly different approach for that one.

WCD- If you try the Griot's 6" RO with an aggressive product like Meguiar's M105, or even a moderately aggressive one like OHC, and *use the right pad*, you should be able to get some real correction out of it. Not saying it'll be right up there with your rotary, but I get enough cut that I hardly ever have to get my rotaries out any more.

You mentioned M205 on a Meg's yellow, and I will say that I don't get much correction out of that combo, or from M205 period. So I just consider M205 a true finishing polish even though some here like to "push it" by using it with an aggressive pad.

Yeah, I've had a Passat before this Jetta, and the clear was very hard. Luckily the Jetta is only 2 months old so there is no visible marring (it's a light color as well). If I do need to do some correction on it I'll be sure to ask here 1st, that's for sure!
