Time to spend some $.

O RLY?
After receiving some money as birthday gifts, I'm eager to buy some good products. $300 is the budget I have to cover everything (including pads for my PC). Interior, paint, wheels/tires, engine, you name it, I want to buy products for it. Since I'll be using these on customer cars, I need them to be versatile products.

So, If it's not asking too much, would you mind putting together your personal choices of products (including PC pads) under $300?

I 'preciate it. :)

I would start by checking out properautocare.com. I love that site because they have everything. But premiumautocare.com has 4* and Poorboy's if you prefer those brands...all preference of course. However, properautocare.com's website is organized where you can click wash and get a list of everything you need to wash (a variety of brands), then click on Wax and get everthing you need on waxing, etc. So all you have is a PC and that's it?

My prefrences, others will have their own. Same with which store to order stuff from. I have my favorites, others have their favorites.

After trying LC and Sonus pads, I prefer the Sonus pads. They'd be my choice. www.autopia-carcare.com has a nice starter kit, and add a couple more polishing pads to the mix. IMHO, they'll be your workhorse. Pads, like everything, are a matter of personal preference. Meguiar's pads would be worth trying (and a brand I'd like to try in the future) - like $25 for two polishing pads and a finishing pad on their website and a little over $30 if you need a backing plate.

A couple polishes - one for heavier swirls, and another for lighter swirling and cleaning up after the more aggressive polish.. probably 2 would be good. DACP and SFP would be a good place to start. SSR 2.5 / SSR 1 too. 1Z products are supposed to be easy to use.

Woolite would be good for interior cleaning.

I like Eagle One A2Z for wheel and tire cleaning. Pick your poison for tire dressing! Find something dilutable to various ratios (Meg's Hyper Dressing?) and you can use it on tires, under the hood, and even inside if you'd like. Gallon will last quite a while with the various dilution ratios.

I like Orange Blast as a degreaser.

Stoner's Invisible Glass for cleaning glass.

Oh, don't forget clay! I've tried Mother's and Clay Magic - like em both. If you get the Mother's, don't throw away the cleaner wax but use it under the hood and in door jambs.

Don't forget a collection of brushes, mitts, mf's, apps, bottles, etc. Can add up to $100 or more pretty quickly! I'm very happy with the brushes and MF's I got from www.wcdetail.com. The brush set will give you a good start if you don't already have a collection. Cost effective and high quality.

Waxes, sealants.. heh.. that's a multipage thread of its own :) Pick one or two that strike your fancy and try em out. Use profits from customer cars to try others. Since you're doing customer cars, maybe a good one step for folks that want a wash'n'wax would be a good addition. Poorboy's PwC maybe?

For a PC, wander on down to:
LOWE'S OF W. MARIETTA, GA #0545
2650 DALLAS HWY. S.W.

Lowes has 7336 PCs (6" counterweight) for $99.95. Best price around.

Try to find a good deal on Lake Country or Sonus pads. I like the LC 7.5" VC pads myself. Try ProperAutoCare.com.

I like Zaino products (ZFX, Z2, Z5, Z6, Z7) on my own cars. Looks great on lighter colored cars. Some people don't like it on darker car (a little too shiny).

I also have Menzerna products (IP, FP2, FMJ). I like IP and FP2 as moderate and final polishes. I'm having second thoughts about FMJ because of durability. My wife's Forestor only has three weeks of FMJ and beading is deteriorating. Also FMJ is expensive. (So is Z2/Z5 + ZFX, but they last a lot longer.)

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Dan.

Thanks for the replies. I've been browsing like crazy trying to put together good products that deliver the best bang for my buck as I want them all to last long.

So I'll keep on searching and update you guys on what I'm looking at.

Thanks again.

I was thinking of that just as I clicked this thread today. The list looks like some pretty good stuff. I'll probably end up buying everything on your list! :bigups

By the way, your products article is awesome!

Sorry about PAC comments, you need to flame...just personal preference! So does FMJ really not last as long as its advertised? Perry, what made you like Sonus over LC?
