Time to experiment! New products testing...Klasse Twins and later, UPP

I've got a few products I want to try that I receive courtesy of edschwab1 (thanks!).

I've got some Klasse AIO and SG, Platinum UPP and some various glass cleaners, QDs, 3M Machine Glaze and vinyl protectants too.

I've already tried the Klasse twins on a black BMW 740Li and I did take pictures. AIO seemed to clean the paint pretty effectively and left it very slick, much the way VM does. Seemed slightly brighter looking though. Easy on and off. I then applied the SG as thinly as I could. I'd just dab a little bit of the product into the pad and wipe until there was a slight drag, then add more product and continue to spread it around. The temperatures were in the mid 50s but due to time constraints, I only left the SG on for about 30 minutes before removing it. About 95% of it came off with little effort, the other 5% (where I probably applied too much product) took a little more work. I didn't see any hazing, but I did find one spot towards the end of the car that looked slightly smeared, but a quick wipe with an mf towel fixed that. I followed up with a light spritzing of Quikshine since my customer had an appointment to get to, so I wanted to make sure I didn't leave any residue behind.

I pulled the car out in the sun and it looked really good. Very reflective and it felt real slick. The look isn't quite as deep as I am used to with carnauba combos, but my customer was quite please at how well the paint reflected. I'm going to add another layer of SG next time I wash it (next week) to see how it affects the look. I did take pictures and should have them posted by the end of the week.

So far, so good with the Klasse Twins based on my initial impression...although I have a feeling this might not be the best combo when pressed for time, given the time SG needs to properly haze for removal.

I have the afternoon off (chance of rain late tonight and into the early morning), so I'm going to try the following on my car, based on some reading through this forum. Meguiars Swirl Free Polish, Klasse AIO and Platinum UPP. My understanding is that like Poorboy's EX, UPP is not particularly picky about surface prep, that basically you can use it over AIO, their polish (which I don't have), or traditional glazes. A few have mentioned how they like the AIO/UPP combo, so that is what I am going to try. My next black car, I'll probably go with Vanilla Moose/UPP and see how that works out also.

Anyway, any additional tips would be appreciated!

Scott, try the wipe on/wipe off way with SG. You'll find it much easier to use (about like S100).

About the UPP, what you use before will be very important for it's lasting. AIO or Platinum UPC are the best bet.

Maybe you should try BillNorth's method of wipe on wipe off with the SG next time. It will save you from some time constraints, hopefully give you no smearing and still give you all the benefits of SG. I'm gonna try it as soon as the weather permits. Also after reading on here for awhile, they say to get at least 3 coats of SG on it. But Scott I've seen some of your work on here(amazing) so I'm sure i'm not telling you anything new. It's actually cool that your trying new products, when the other ones seem to work so tried and true for you... :wavey

Jose, thanks for the tips. AIO under UPP on my car it is, mostly because I have very little time for it. Several of my customers have their cars waxed every 6-8 weeks, so durability is not really an issue, just as long as the products protect for 8 weeks, they will be happy. For most of them, their main goal is their cars look as wet and reflective as possible.

BTW, you try the Winner's Choice Polymer Finishing Creme?

It's been raining a lot for the last month, so I only had the chance to try it on my white Renault's hood. I preped it very well, and cleaned the surface the better way possible and then applied the Winners Choice. Very easy to apply, and I liked it's looks too. It'll be my topper the next time I can do my Volvo.

:scared :scared :scared :scared

OH NO!!!!!!

Scottwax is trying to get his cars even more shiney than before.....that means even more time drooling over his pics :p :lol

Scott,

Give the wipe on/off method a shot next time you SG. Let us know how you like it compared to the other method.

I can SG a 3 Series and C-Class in 30 minutes using this method. Slicknes and durability have behaved the same with this method as with the other one.

I think you'll find it much easier in general, especially if you are tight for time.

Bill.

Thanks Bill. I give it a shot the next time I use it.

I just finished going over my car with Swirl Free #82, Klasse AIO and Platinum UPP. I wasn't quite sure how long to let UPP sit, so while I was waiting, I cleaned my wheels, dressed my tires and fenderwells, dash and console and cleaned the windows with Einszett Glass Cleaner . Took about 25 to 30 minutes. I then used an mf towel to wipe off the UPP. Most of it came right off, a few areas seemed almost like I let it dry too long, but a little more elbow grease and it came off. I then finished off with 4 Star Shine Gloss Enhancer.

I noticed that AIO left my paint slick and reflective and UPP added a wetter gloss and is ultra slick. Kind of a shimmering look. Not quite as deep as Poorboy's PwC/EX or Clearkote's VM/CMW combos, but certainly more reflective with the same gloss and wetness. This combo didn't particularly darken my paint slightly like carnauba combos do, which on my particular color (burgandy) doesn't really seem to matter. Maybe on black or other dark colors it might, I don't know. On white, silver, gold, etc, this would be an outstanding combination.

Hopefully this combination will get me through to the spring with very little upkeep other than washing and QDing. With the shorter days, I have almost no time for my own car, so hopefully these products will help maintain the shine for a long time.

I'll definitely be trying these products over the next few weeks on a variety of vehicles to guage the best combinations and techiniques so I can get the very best results.

So.. Which topper did you prefer? The UPP or the SG?

A bunch of us already swear by AIO, but are a bit heistant on the topper..

A compare/contrast on your thoughts between SG and AIO would be much appreciated!

I don't know that I'd call UPP or SG a topper. Toppers are usually waxes over sealants. AIO is just part of the preperation for either SG or whatever else goes on top. Basicly its a paint cleaner and not so much of a sealant.

I know that this has been a recent debate regarding AIO, but let me ask this... If AIO is really a sealant then why no curing time? It doesn't even have to dry before you buff it off. If AIO is such great protection then it can't be because its some fantastic sealant. I still say that SG is the 'POW' in the Klasse system. I love AIO and what it can do for cleaning, but I'd never use it all by itself as protection or shine. It really needs a sealant like SG or UPP or Zaino or whatever. AIO is a preperation product.

Ya, you're right. Just poor wording I guess..

What I meant is that after AIO, the car is prepped. It's my (and I think most others) final stage in prepping, and once it's done, you're ready to top it with something. Whether you top it with a sealant or a wax, that's your choice, but you gotta top it with something.

I agree that AIO isn't a sealant, and i'd never use it as such.

With that said, Scott prepped the cars, and finished his prepping with AIO. I wanna know which looked best 'on top' of the AIO.

thanks!

Hmm...All this seems interesting, but I would like to try Nxt Tech Wax over AIO when its out in February.

Anthony: You say AIO isn't a sealant, but just a quick question. When you did that terribly oxidized Toyota pickup a couple months ago, why did you only use AIO? Was it because he wasn't paying you a ton or did you think it would last an adequate amount of time? Just curious...

Scott: How would you compare 4 Star Shine Gloss Enhancer to Clearkote's Quickshine?

Yeah, basically that was it. He just wanted the oxidation gone so I just did what was necessary. I didn't touch the interior or the engine either. Just the outside. I ended up topping it with UPP after I was all done just because I wanted it to really knock his socks off when he saw the difference. The only picture with the UPP is the full view of the truck. The rest of the pictures are just AIO.

blackntan-I don't know which I prefer yet (SG or UPP) over AIO, seeing as I've only used each one once and they were on different colors. My initial impressions are that SG is more reflective and UPP is wetter looking. I'd give the edge in slickness to UPP also. Maybe after a second coat of SG on the 740, I might change my mind.

GSRstilez-It's hard to say for sure which QD I like more after using 4 Star only once and on a freshly sealed car. It doesn't seem as 'wet' as QS though...not appearance-wise, but QS stays wet on the paint for a long time so it probably will be better as a QD you'd use for light cleaning while 4 Star seems better suited to use right after washing to maintain the shine.

Seeing as I can get QS for only $9 per bottle locally, it would take a really amazing QD for me to have to order it.

Great report Scottwax. I'm a big fan of the AIO/UPP combo. FWIW...I also like it on lighter colors which is why AIO/UPP is the treatment on my wife's Chrome Silver Pathfinder. I prefer carnauba based products on darker colors like my own red F150. IMO, the surface slickness after the AIO/UPP combo is outstanding.

Curious if you encountered any streaking problems while buffing off the UPP? Reason I ask is because one time when I had to remove UPP after only 20 minutes (thunderstorm looming on the horizon) it did streak and took a bit of effort to remove. Everytime I've waited 60 minutes or more it has come off with no problems at all.

I suggest keeping a bottle of SONUS QD available for "emergencies". I used it to take off SG buildup where I laid it down a little too thickly - works like a dream when time is critical and you have run out of the MF+elbow grease combination. It is a KLASSE friendly QD as it uses the same acrylic as the twins. It used to be a CMA product, but when I called them looking to purchase a gallon, I was told it was "sold" the the autopia store. Not cheap, but extremely effective. I ended up in this situation by forgetting the Bill North method and I applied with a 4 inch yellow sponge.

I had SG smear on me when I first started using it. I applied it too thick and tried to remove it too soon. A note about too soon is there must be a time between the Bill North method and waiting 2 hours for removal that Sg will gum if applied too thick and is not completely dry when buffing off. It was a PITA to remove so I understand when newbies complain. Once you develop the right process Klasse is very easy to use.

Scott,

Try the Einszett glass cleaner works well on interior windows with gasing or exterior with heavy road film on the exterior. Now if something could be done about the odor of the window cleaner.

How do you think the 1z Glass cleaner worked?

Eric

Eric-the glass cleaner works very well, even on unwashed windows. The only drawback I can see is that the windshield doesn't shed water as easily as it does with Eagle's 20/20 or Quikshine even though it leaves the glass feeling nearly as slick.

I didn't really notice the odor.
