ThrottleGate: First class-action lawsuit filed against Toyota over pedal recall

[Parker Waichman Alonso] and the [Becnel Law Firm allege] that, as a result of these recalls, Toyota owners lost the use of their vehicles, and sustained, among things, economic losses and severe emotional distress.

Seriously? Buyers of the big three have been sustaining economic losses and emotional distress for twenty plus years.

I really expect some lawsuits, mainly from those actually affected by the issue. This is frivolous and is a prime example of one of the things wrong with our system right now.

Your right but you knew it is coming but they have not won yet.

The current fix may fix the sticking throttle but it will not cure the run away acceleration that is a software problem.

While Toyota plans to start building the new cars with the over ride their are no plans to install it in the 7.5 million already sold and if more of them cause injury after this recall that is where the liability suits will come from that will hurt them.

What I would do if I had one is look at a schematic and find the wire that runs from the ignition switch to the computer and cut it run it to a toggle switch on the dash.

This way when it takes off instead of putting it in neutral and damaging the engine or maybe turning the key off and locking the steering you could just hit the switch.
In a panic situation some people do just that they panic so make it simple.

I'm sure I could deal with it but I would have the switch installed before I would put my wife behind the wheel of one.

Go post in the political thread. :howdy

I know I'm dragging up a bit of an old thread here. It's quite unusual that the usually conservative, tight lipped Utah Police went out on a limb to say something like this. Not to mention it probably isn't their call.

Toyota's Fault

About two weeks ago I saw on the news that the government was investigating Toyota again because before the uncontrolled acceleration problem became widely known Toyota had bought back some cars and paid the people to keep quiet about the problem.

This was well ahead of the recall when Toyota was denying a problem.

If this can be prov-en they will face another big fine.

Paying people to be quiet is another euphemism for "settling out of court". These settlements would likely have non-disclosure requirements.

And not to mention that Toyota is the only car company in the history of the automobile who would ever stoop to such nefarious levels.
